Norwich City Consider Former West Brom Boss as Philippe Clement Situation Gets Worse

Philippe Clement’s tenure at Norwich City could end abruptly if he fails to improve outcomes.

The Canaries finished the previous season on a high note, rising to eighth in the Championship table.

The Norfolk club missed out on a play-off spot by only eight points, despite being on the verge of relegation when the Belgian took over.

However, a poor start to the season has returned Norwich to where Clement found them, with the team sitting 21st in the standings after 11 games.

Norwich City undoubtedly have Carlos Corberan in their sights amid the difficult 2026-27 start.

It remains to be seen whether City sporting director Ben Knapper, who has faced criticism from fans, will make a change in the dugout at this early stage of the season.

However, Norwich must be assessing their alternatives right now, and there is one apparent name that must be on their radar as a replacement for Clement.

Carlos Corberan is presently a free agent after being released by Valencia in the first few weeks of the season.

The Spaniard was fighting for results in a chaotic atmosphere at the Spanish club, but he has a strong track record in the Championship, having previously worked with West Brom and Huddersfield Town.

If anyone can turn things around in lieu of Clement, the 43-year-old could be the most practical and achievable alternative.

Carlos Corberan’s Impact on Huddersfield Town and West Brom

Against all odds, Huddersfield competed for promotion back to the Premier League thanks to Corberan’s high-pressing approach and excellent tactical implementation.

The Terriers reached the play-off final in 2022, but were defeated 1-0 by Nottingham Forest before he left the club.

However, he returned to English football with West Brom following a terrible spell with Olympiacos, where he once again excelled.

Despite financial concerns and considerable behind-the-scenes changes, he was able to keep the Baggies playing some of the most productive football in the division and vying for promotion.

Corberan has demonstrated the ability to adopt great tactical systems quickly, which should allay concerns that a mid-season hiring will not work, as he instantly had Valencia doing well when he took over in December 2024.

And the Canaries’ first-team squad is well-suited to adapting to his style of play, with a number of natural fits already in place.

Kellen Fisher, Jack Stacey, and Ben Chrisene should be able to play more advanced roles.

Norwich can also play with two attacking midfielders in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with players such as Anis Ben Slimane, Andre Brooks, and Oscar Schwartau being comfortable in that capacity.

Philippe Clement needs a rapid answer to save his Norwich City job.

With someone like Corberan on the market and presumably interested in returning to England, the emphasis is on Clement to turn things around quickly.

Fans demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the team at the weekend, when they lost 1-0 to Portsmouth, booing them at full time.

Norwich City’s last five league results.

Opponent (Home or away)

Result

Portsmouth (H)

1-0 loss

Southampton (H)

1-0 loss

Swansea City (A

2-1 loss

Bolton Wanderers (H)

4-3 loss

Middleborough (A)

If outcomes do not improve in the next few weeks, Norwich will undoubtedly pull the trigger, especially with key players like Mo Toure on the sidelines.

Corberan would be an intriguing addition to Norwich and might help the squad get back to where it wants to be this season.
