According to rumours, Championship side Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Sunderland forward Timur Tutierov in January.

Rovers, who are now 16th in the Championship and coached by former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray, are apparently planning to raid his former club in January for one of their most promising young prospects.

Rovers had made a respectable but unspectacular start to life under new manager Mowbray, sitting mid-table in the Championship at the first international break after two wins, three draws, and three loses in their first eight league games.

The former Premier League winners want to climb out of the relegation zone and find some stability under Mowbray’s leadership.

With the transfer window closed, the 62-year-old must make do with his present squad until January, but that doesn’t mean planning for the next window hasn’t begun.

According to new claims on Nixon’s Patreon site, Blackburn are considering a winter move for Sunderland forward Tutierov, who is battling to break into the Black Cats’ first squad.

Tutierov, 21, joined the Wearside club from Ukrainian side Kolos Kovalivka in the summer of 2023, but did not make his senior debut until August 2026, when he appeared for 11 minutes in a 1-0 EFL Cup win over Hull City.

With that in mind, Sunderland is apparently considering a loan to the Championship, while Blackburn is thought to be scouting him ahead of a possible January move for his services.

Tutierov’s name is unlikely to be familiar to Blackburn supporters, given his recent arrival at Sunderland.

The 21-year-old began his youth career in his home Ukraine before moving to Wearside at the age of 17, where he was promoted to the first squad a year later.

Tutierov has represented his country at both the under-18 and under-21 levels, with ten caps and two goals for the 18s and five caps and no goals for the 21s.

The Ukrainian, who primarily plays as a left winger but can also play on the opposite flank, as a number 10, or even as a striker, has impressed throughout his time at the Academy of Light, demonstrating his versatility as a forward with an outstanding eye for goal.

Tutierov got his first taste of senior football in England in January, when he was loaned out to League One club Exeter City, where he scored three goals and assisted once in 17 appearances before being demoted to League Two.

Since returning to his parent club, the teenage attacker has signed a contract extension and made his senior debut, frequently appearing on the bench for Regis Le Bris’ Premier League squad.

Blackburn Rovers may have an ace up their sleeves to sign Tutierov.

While more interest in Tutierov may emerge between now and January, Blackburn may be in pole position to sign him due to some of their staff’s connections with Sunderland.

Current Rovers manager Mowbray was in charge of the Black Cats when Tutierov signed, but his assistant, Mike Dodds, was also a well-known figure on Wearside for his ability to develop young players.

Dodds, who is acknowledged with playing a significant influence in the emergence of the Bellingham brothers, left Sunderland to become Wycombe Wanderers’ head coach in February 2025, but he is still well-known for his exceptional work in player development at the now Premier League club to this day.

With that in mind, Sunderland may consider Blackburn as an excellent destination for Tutierov to develop, having already witnessed firsthand what their coaching team can achieve with intriguing young players.
