Celtic have been handed an update on their pursuit of Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Balazs Toth, with manager Tony Mowbray providing clarity on the situation surrounding the potential transfer.

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray is unaware of any proposals for goalkeeper Balazs Toth, amid reports connecting him with a move to Celtic.

The Hungarian shot-stopper is in the final year of his contract at Ewood Park and has turned down any new extension offers this summer.

Toth has been extensively connected with the reigning Scottish champions, with reports earlier this week claiming that Martin O’Neil’s club was in “advanced talks” with Blackburn over a transfer.

The possibilities of him leaving before the window closes are strong, as Rovers face losing him for free next summer if he stays at Ewood Park. However, despite having a backup plan in place if he leaves, Blackburn have yet to receive any bids.

Tony Mowbray provides an update on Balazs Toth’s future.

Toth has started Blackburn’s two competitive games this season, the EFL Cup against Burton Albion and the Championship opener against Wolves a week ago.

Rovers head coach Tony Mowbray confirmed that his first-choice goalkeeper will play against Middlesbrough tomorrow, despite earlier reports suggesting he was on his way out.To be honest, I don’t know what else there is to know.” “I’m pretty sure there have been no bids, no offers, nothing for him, and it seems to be very media-driven.

“I have nothing to say or add because I don’t know any more. To be honest, he’s a pretty calm and cool kid. “He is unfazed.”He says he just gets on with his training every day and keeps going, which is exactly what I expect from him.”

Tony Mowbray acknowledges that contingency preparations are in place in case Balazs Toth leaves for Celtic.

With Toth in his final year of contract, he could leave in the final week of the transfer window. Last summer, Blackburn lost Callum Brittain and Lewis Tavis as they approached the end of their contracts.

Rovers have a history of allowing players to finish their contracts, as shown with Tyrhys Dolan last summer and Sondre Tronstad this year. However, Mowbray has stated that a backup plan is in place in case the Hungarian international is transferred.Every day, I sit in the coach’s office.

“I don’t really sit in an office by myself,” he explained. “I meet with my coaches every day to discuss football, squads, and players. We analyse players’ potential by asking ‘What do you think about this?’.Although there have been no bids or contact regarding our goalkeepers,

we discuss various solutions for what if scenarios. If nothing occurs, we’ll keep going because I believe the goalkeeping department is rather strong, with Toth and Pears in particular, and the younger players below all competing.

“I believe we have talked it, many ideas and concepts, whether it be a Premier League loan or a really great young goalkeeper from somewhere. Are they coming in to be number two, and if Toth goes, will we put Pears right back in?”For me, you have to create competition, so you have to get the greatest goalie you can get and then evaluate them on a daily basis, and then we pick the team and attempt to win football matches.”

Time is running out for Celtic to launch a significant bid for Balazs Toth.

While Blackburn may feel compelled to sell Toth this summer due to his contract predicament, that does not mean that Ewood Park’s management will be willing to accept any opening bid. They’ll still want to get good value for their first-choice goalkeeper.

The transfer window expires on September 1. Blackburn has the unfortunate distinction of having an interrupted week in the later portions of that window due to their progression in the EFL Cup. On Tuesday evening, they will host Sheffield United.

There will be a lot of juggling between that game and potential ins and outs in the closing phases of the window. Given Blackburn’s relative inaction thus far, Rovers fans will be hoping for some positive news from the club next week.

They don’t want to be shorthanded in the goalkeeper department, and while preparations are in place if Toth leaves, they won’t take effect if the 28-year-old stays at Ewood Park, and they’ll take time to implement.

So, if Celtic wait too long and Blackburn is unable to find a successor, they may accept that Toth will move in January or for free next summer if it means they can remain strong in goal in the meantime.
