Millwall have had a busy and promising summer transfer window thus far, but the Lions may be about to suffer a significant blow regarding Femi Azeez’s future, as Football League World can now exclusively reveal that Hull City are actively interested in luring the star forward away from south-east London this month.

The Lions had been ready to get back to work after losing to the Tigers in the play-off semi-finals in May, almost missing out on immediate promotion to second-placed Ipswich Town.

Alex Neil has since bolstered his squad with a number of new signings, including Danny Batth and Mark Sykes, as well as younger players Tairyk Arconte, Elkan Baggott, Kyrell Lisbie – whose signing was first revealed by FLW – Jenson Metcalfe, and Mathis Servais.

Indeed, the Scotsman is embarking on a squad rebuilding process after deciding to sanction a number of departures, but whereas the exit door has already been opened by Millwall’s own volition, Azeez’s potential departure would be entirely out of the promotion hopefuls’ hands – though that possibility may be growing as a result of Hull’s new display of interest.

Speculation over Azeez’s future has been relatively quiet this summer, after Ipswich reportedly made an unsuccessful £20 million deal for the 25-year-old following promotion.

However, there is no assurance that the Lions will be able to keep Azeez for a third season after his explosive performances in the 2025/26 season, which saw the gifted winger spark his side’s journey to the play-offs by producing 11 goals and seven assists from 37 appearances.

Millwall would obviously loathe to lose Azeez so close to the start of the new season, but with just under two weeks till Neil’s side face Bristol City, FLW can reveal new interest from Hull.

According to sources, the Tigers are interested in signing the two-cap Nigerian international as Acun Ilicali tries to step up his side’s transfer business ahead of life in the Premier League, with a number of incomings expected at the MKM Stadium.

At least for the time being, it’s unknown exactly how far the top-flight new boys are ready to go in their quest. According to earlier reports, Millwall is holding out for an incredible £30 million, given that Azeez’s current deal still has two years left.

This implies that a deal will be difficult to negotiate, and Millwall can have a strong negotiating position. However, even though the Lions have the upper hand, every player has a price, and it’s hard to see Azeez being warmly welcomed by a team that could deal them another blow after eliminating them from the play-offs.

After moving to The Den from Reading two years ago, there is currently no sign that Azeez plans to leave Millwall.
