Watford star Troy Deeney has reacted to their setback at Vicarage Road to Burnley, who won 4-0 to leave Alessio Dionisi, Gino Pozzo, and co. precariously near to the bottom of the standings.
Burnley had been winless, but after defeating Watford for the third time in a row, they had closed the gap to one point. Alessio Dionisi’s side won their first game against Southampton and a recent match against Preston North End, but they have just two draws to show for their efforts.
Burnley took the lead before the break thanks to goals from Jacob Bruun Larsen, Zeki Amdouni, and Reo Hatate, with Marcus Edwards’ magnificent strike securing the win and adding gloss to the scoreline. Many Watford fans are mutinous over the situation, with Deeney turning to X to respond to the defeat.
Troy Deeney laments the current situation at Watford.

Deeney expressed concern over the club’s current performance in the Championship, stating: “Watford 🤯🫠”. They don’t like my telling the truth, but the writing has been on the wall for months. I feel terrible for the supporters that continue to show up out of devotion and faith. 💛”
The former Watford captain was asked if he had spoken with the club about the situation and informed them how ignorant they are, with one fan adding that while it may be wishful thinking, his voice might and should be taken seriously.
Deeney said: “The club only have to call, they know that it’s been offered more than once.”
In another answer to a supporter, Deeney stated: “I’ve been saying it for years; the flaws are clear: removing talent and leadership while allowing for low standards, mercenary players, and a lack of accountability.
“Many don’t like my style of approach but I’ve never been a club spokesman like others, most importantly I’ve only wanted the club to be in a better place than when we left it.”Never bitter, but occasionally upset at what I see and know. Many people believed I was the problem, but time has proven otherwise. 👍🏾”
Watford’s hierarchy should listen to Troy Deeney.

Troy Deeney is one of Watford’s best players, and his achievements at Vicarage Road ensure that his voice will continue to be heard in and around the club.
During his 11-year stint with the Hornets, the former captain scored 140 goals in 419 games and played a key role in the club’s promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

His 96th-minute winner against Leicester City in the 2013 play-off semi-final remains one of English football’s most famous moments, and he later helped Watford achieve promotion to the Premier League in 2015 and 2021.
Deeney also led the team to the FA Cup final in 2019 and helped them achieve their greatest Premier League points total. Few former players, if any, understand Watford’s identity, objectives, and supporters better; his knowledge and connection to the club need to be heard during this tough time.
Watford’s direction of travel is a major problem in 2026/27.

Watford fans have every right to be dissatisfied with the route their team has taken since its relegation from the Premier League in 2022. Rather of making a sustained push for an immediate return to the top division, the Hornets have had a series of disappointing seasons.
Their final league place has deteriorated practically every season. Finishing 16th in the Championship last season was hardly cause for joy, but the current trajectory implies that things may go even worse this time around.
Understandably, this will leave supporters further disillusioned, especially considering the club’s recent Premier League history and aspirations. Deeney, who understands what Watford is capable of at their finest, is justified in his concerns.
The direction of travel is highly concerning, and without obvious indicators of development, discontent among the fandom will only increase from here. Some believe Dionisi’s status is already untenable, while Pozzo and those in positions of power are under increased scrutiny.
