Burnley is still without a head coach as they prepare for their Championship opener against West Ham on August 16.
The Clarets had a terrible campaign last season, as they were relegated from the Premier League without much of a fight.
That irritated the fans, and many got their wish when it was reported that Scott Parker had departed the club at the end of April.
However, some two months later, Burnley has yet to appoint his successor, with a deal for Craig Bellamy falling through late owing to an inability to bring in the coaching staff he desired – and they have also been passed over by another possible contender.
Rob Edwards will not be the next Burnley head coach.

After it became evident that Bellamy would not be taking over at Turf Moor, reports suggested Rob Edwards was a candidate for the Championship position.
The 43-year-old is out of job after being fired by Wolves following their relegation, a move that startled many onlookers.
Even though Edwards won only three of his 27 Premier League games at Molineux, there was a sense that the former Middlesbrough manager had been brought in with the Championship in mind, since he inherited a Wolves club doomed to relegation.
Despite the manner of his sacking, Edwards does not appear to be eager to return to the game, with TalkSPORT writer Alex Crook revealing that Burnley have ‘failed with an approach’ to the former Luton Town manager.
Burnley must make a speedy management decision as the massive summer window looms.
If Burnley had selected Edwards, it’s safe to say that the move would have divided opinion, given his chequered managerial record thus far.
However, the main concern is that it is another failed appointment for Burnley, putting the team in danger of losing ground over this critical summer period.
First, a new management must be appointed to make transfer choices. Obviously, the recruitment staff will continue to operate in the background, but you must understand the type of manager you are recruiting for and the style of play they prefer.
Furthermore, pre-season is quickly approaching, and it is frequently noted how important this period is for a manager to get to know his players.
It also sends the wrong message that Burnley has missed out on another managerial objective, which will only raise further doubts, including from players who want to know where the club is going.
So, the leadership must resolve this issue quickly, and then set to work supporting the incoming manager and reforming the squad as they seek to return to the Premier League.
The 2026/27 Championship season appears to be incredibly competitive, as Burnley fear falling behind their competitors because they still don’t have a manager in place, which is remarkable given the date Parker left.
Edwards may have his own reasons for not wanting the Burnley position, but considering the circumstances surrounding his departure from Wolves, he will be determined to choose his next club wisely.
Burnley fans respond to ‘failed’ Rob Edwards chase.

Burnley fans are growing disgruntled with the lengthy process, with one slamming the club for the delay.
