Birmingham City are considering a £10 million transfer for a Brighton star.

Birmingham City finished their first season back in the Championship on a high note.

Chris Davies’ job as head coach has been called into doubt at times over the last year, but a five-game unbeaten streak to end the season saw the Blues finish 10th in the table.

The Midlands club achieved promotion 12 months ago with an astounding 111 points on their path to League One glory.

Their sights were focused on immediately fighting for promotion to the Premier League, having not played in the top since 2011.

Despite significant investment in the first-team roster, the club was unable to sustain a legitimate top-six challenge.

Birmingham will now focus on the summer transfer window, hoping to close the gap on the play-off places after finishing sixth, nine points behind Hull City.

Birmingham City are looking at a loan agreement with Brighton.

Football Insider has stated that Birmingham is one of the clubs interested in signing Tommy Watson this summer.

Brighton are reportedly ready to loan out the winger again after he spent the second part of the season with Millwall.

The 20-year-old joined the Seagulls from Sunderland last summer, having helped the Wearside club achieve promotion to the Premier League.

He joined for a whopping £10 million, but he only made six Premier League substitute appearances before joining Millwall on loan.

Watson appeared 12 times in the Championship for Alex Neil’s club, including two starts, as they advanced to the play-off semi-finals before losing to Hull.

However, Birmingham is now one of the clubs looking to bring the forward to St. Andrew’s for next season.

They will face competition from a number of second-tier clubs, as well as prospective Portuguese powerhouse Porto.

It remains to be seen what the 20-year-old’s preference is, and whether a return to Millwall is in the cards after his loan stay ended with a defeat to the Tigers.

While Brighton still sees him as part of Fabian Hurzeler’s long-term plans, the Premier League club wants to loan him out this summer so he can obtain regular first-team experience.

Birmingham will want to improve their attacking options as they strive for a top-eight finish in the Championship.

Tommy Watson’s loan move makes the greatest sense for his career. He shown during his time at Millwall that another year in the Championship would be beneficial.

While there is no doubt that he has the potential to be a Premier League player, he has to gain more experience in the second division before moving up.

Birmingham might be a good fit for him next season, but he’ll be apprehensive of getting consistent game time given Davies’ other choices.

Wherever Watson ends up, he must prioritise a move to a club where he will be a regular starter, which could be a problem at St. Andrews.
