This summer, both Portsmouth and Luton Town might benefit from a £1.5 million transfer.
Pompey’s head coach, John Mousinho, expects another ‘busy’ transfer window after adding 11 players last summer.
He told The News: “We have five loans coming back, which certainly frees up space in the squad. We’re going to have some players leave, and we’ll have to see what happens with out-of-contract players, so there will be movement.
However, the agreement in question involves one of the 25/26 Portsmouth loanees returning to their parent club. So Mousinho should allow some room in the team for him to potentially return…
The £1.5 million Portsmouth-Luton Town move made perfect sense.

If you haven’t guessed it before, Pompey and the Hatters should seriously consider negotiating another trade for Millenic Alli, who Luton signed for a reputed £1.5 million.
The 26-year-old only joined Portsmouth on loan in January, yet he started every game for Mousinho, from his debut against Sheffield Wednesday until the draw against Norwich City in early April.
Obviously, a run of 15 matches demonstrated how fast he gained trust. When you consider the winger’s recent Republic of Ireland call-up, it’s clear that he’s making an impression on a larger platform.
EFL players in that position, international football, must normally remain in the Championship if they want to continue being selected. Alli scored one goal and provided two assists for Pompey in 21 league games, 19 of which he started.
Regarding his future, Alli has already stated, “I’m having a blast here [at Portsmouth]. “I came here to play, and I’m grateful for this opportunity.”I can’t complain. It’s fantastic to feel wanted, and I’ve had a positive reception from the fans. I’m extremely delighted to be here with the fellas. This also applies to the gaffer. It’s been amazing thus far, and the goal was to end strong. Now we simply have to see what the future holds.”
However, the last paragraph implies that he may be considering alternative possibilities. Mousinho’s most recent opinion on the topic was in February.
Again, Mousinho told The News that he would like to speak with Alli in the summer to convince him to remain longer, but it is “out of our hands.”
Luton Town will undoubtedly be pleased to break even with Portsmouth loanee.

As previously said, the money is perhaps the most compelling incentive for this transaction to take place. If Luton received their £1.5 million return for Alli, and Portsmouth paid it, the move would be a reasonable outcome for all parties.
Also, despite earning another shot at Championship football, there may not be much enthusiasm for Alli to return to Kenilworth Road in the third division, especially given that he fell out of favour at Luton before leaving.
The Hampshire club paid an estimated £1.2 million on Mark Kosznovszky during the previous summer transfer window, but they will need to spend more money if they don’t want to finish near the bottom again next season.
According to Capology estimations, Alli earned an average of £7.5k per week during his loan stay at Fratton Park, placing him about in the middle of his temporary teammates.
It remains to be seen what Alli is looking for when considering his future, but he is already familiar with Mousinho’s system and would be quite inexpensive to acquire.
