35 years old former Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has confirmed his decision on a potential move to Burnley in the EFL Championship.

Burnley’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday night secured their relegation from the Premier League.

Scott Parker’s side has been on the verge of relegation for some weeks, with only four games remaining.

The Clarets were promoted from the Championship last season, but have since struggled to reestablish themselves in the top division.

Erling Haaland’s fifth-minute goal was enough for Pep Guardiola’s team to secure all three points and send them to the top of the Premier League standings.

Burnley will join Wolves in preparing for life in the second division, with Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, and Nottingham Forest still competing for the third relegation spot.

It might be a busy summer transfer window at Turf Moor, with relegation casting doubt on a number of important players in Parker’s squad.

Kyle Walker delivers an update on Burnley’s future.

Kyle Walker has stated that he will remain with Burnley next season despite their relegation to the Championship at the hands of his previous club Manchester City.

He made it plain that he intends to follow the deal he signed with the Clarets 12 months ago, even if he finds it amusing that his old team has confirmed the club’s relegation.

When asked if he wanted to be a part of a promotion drive next season, he told beIN Sports on X: “Of course. I have a contract here, and I want to honor it.

“As you say, football is a strange thing; 12 months ago, I was in the other locker room, and look where I am now.

“But that’s football; you accept it and move on.

“As long as I’m kicking a football, I’m happy, so I’d like to be here, but we’ll see what happens.”

Walker moved to Turf Moor last summer after the club finished second in the Championship under Parker.

When he moved for Manchester City for £5 million, the full-back agreed to a two-year contract, so he still has 12 months on his present agreement.

The 35-year-old has been a regular for Burnley this season, appearing in 32 of their 34 Premier League games and starting all but one.

Planning for life in the second tier will now begin in earnest, but there are still four games to play before the campaign ends, and players will want to complete the year on a positive note.

The Clarets’ next game is against Leeds United on May 1 at Elland Road, with an 8pm kickoff.

Kyle Walker, who signed a two-year contract with the expectation of staying in the Premier League, might be crucial to Burnley’s promotion aspirations for next year.

However, if he stays, the Championship will be his first appearance at that level since a loan spell with QPR in 2010/11.

Parker will be keen to keep him since he has a wealth of experience and demonstrated this year that he is a key member of the team.

Unless someone makes an offer, which appears unlikely at this point, Walker will be a part of their plans next season as they seek promotion back to the top flight.
