Man City Star Picks Up Injury Ahead of Man Utd Game – Expert Predicts Severity

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United, who are presently four spots higher in the table, will present Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City with their most difficult test to date when they return to action after the international break. But when Guardiola finds out that Omar Marmoush was injured and replaced early in Egypt’s goalless draw with Burkina Faso, he will be furious.

As expected, Premier League players tend to sustain injuries during international vacations. Marmoush, who joined the English team from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, is one such player. Since then, he has scored eight goals and provided four assists in 28 games while wearing the City uniform.

There are new worries over whether the talisman, who was born in Cairo and is widely regarded as one of the greatest attackers in world football, will be healthy and ready for his team’s next match against their bitter rivals, United. As said, Osama Faisal took Marmoush’s position early on after he was tackled by Mohamed Zougrana of Burkina Faso.

Extent of Omar Marmoush’s Recent Injury Ahead of Manchester Derby Revealed

Being with the talented Marmoush could mean the difference between joy and despair following the derby on Sunday, September 14. City, the former four-time champions of England’s top fight, have had a difficult start to the season, with one win and two losses, and will be looking to get back to winning ways against United.

Physio Scout on X (previously Twitter), an injury expert, has shared their thoughts on the 26-year-old and, more significantly, how long it might take him to return to the pitch after being replaced just ten minutes into his country’s 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Burkina Faso. “Omar Marmoush had to leave Egypt’s match against Burkina Faso early on international duty due to ‘a bruised knee ligament,’ according to Egyptian team doctor Mohamed Abu El-Ela,” they said.

“Marmoush may have suffered an MCL injury as a result of the tackler’s contact with the outside of his leg. This suspicion is further supported by the fact that Marmoush was later observed feeling the inside of his knee. He would be extremely fortunate to escape with only a contusion or bone bruise. Let’s wait and see, though.

Those of an Etihad Stadium persuasion stated that Marmoush, who was formerly from Wolfsburg and St. Pauli, might be lucky to escape with only a bone bruise that would heal in less than a week. However, a grade 1 injury would take one to three weeks, and a grade 2 injury could take three to six weeks.

“If scans have confirmed he has suffered an MCL sprain, it’d be unlikely he’d feature for the Manchester derby,” they said, confirming that the Egypt international would miss the match due to a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury. We need further feedback from Pep and Man City.

They emphasised that it was challenging to locate clear footage and alternative angles, and they concluded their analysis by stating that Guardiola, who is considered by many to be one of the best managers in football history, will provide more details in due time, possibly in his pre-Manchester derby press conference.

The difficult games for Guardiola keep coming after the crucial matchup between Amorim and Guardiola. The Citizens’ 2025–26 Champions League campaign begins on Thursday, September 18, against Italian team Napoli. Three days later, they will travel to the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal.
