Antonio Rudiger Sent Message From German FA as He Faces Huge Ban

Following the Copa del Rey final incident, Antonio Rüdiger may face a significant suspension.

After getting sent off at the Copa del Rey final versus Barcelona, Antonio Rüdiger is facing severe repercussions. The Real Madrid defender was given a red card for hurling an object at referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, even though he had already been replaced during extra time. This infraction carries a significant sentence.

Rüdiger’s response drew harsh criticism amid lingering annoyance over the referee’s appointment, which had allegedly led Real Madrid to contemplate pulling out of the final. Rudi Völler, the German FA’s sporting director, was one among the people who spoke out, describing the actions as “unacceptable.”

> “Toni is a fantastic player, but he also needs to act with class as a member of the national team. He is correct to expect respect for himself, but he also needs to treat everyone with the same decency. In this instance, he and a few teammates let themselves be carried away by the intensely heated mood that, for some reason, permeates the club even prior to kickoff. Especially for a German international, that is unacceptable.

According to Spanish disciplinary criteria, Rüdiger’s conduct might be categorized as “mild violence” toward a match official, which carries a maximum punishment of 12 games, or, in the worst scenario, “assault against a referee,” which carries a maximum ban of six months. The disciplinary body has not yet made a final conclusion.

The following was mentioned in the official referee’s match report:

> “Player (22) Antonio Rudiger was sent off in the 120th minute for throwing an object from the technical area that missed me. Several coaching staff members had to detain him after he was shown the red card due to his hostile demeanor.

Since then, Rüdiger has apologized in public, writing:

> “There is absolutely no justification for the way I behaved last night. I sincerely apologize for that. We played a great game from the second half on. However, I was unable to assist my team after 111 minutes, and I made a mistake just before the final whistle. I apologize once more to everyone I let down last night, even the referee.

Rüdiger will now miss the rest of Real Madrid’s La Liga season due to the incident, which puts them in a difficult position. His absence might be a major setback as they attempt to get within four points of leaders Barcelona with just five games left.
