Rio Ferdinand, a former defender at Manchester United, has encouraged the club to keep hold of one player following his performance against Lyon.
The match between United and Lyon, a team from the French Ligue 1 league, took place on Thursday evening. Both teams were competing for a spot in the semifinals of the Europa League.
As a result of the Red Devils’ failure to capitalise on a 2-0 advantage, the match was forced to go into extra time. It appeared as though the Red Devils were going to have yet another disappointing evening.
The away team subsequently took a 4-2 lead, but three goals scored by United in the last minutes of the match drove Old Trafford into a state of chaos, resulting in a surprise 5-4 victory for United.
Ruben Amorim’s team will now face Athletic Club, a team from La Liga, in the last four of the competition as a consequence of this. On the other side of the draw, Bodo/Glimt and Tottenham Hotspur will compete against one another for a spot in the championship match.
Ferdinand, a legend for United, made a statement after the game in which he urged the club to avoid the temptation of selling Alejandro Garnacho, an experienced player from Argentina.
Even though the twenty-year-old didn’t capitalise on a big opportunity to make it 3-0 at the beginning of the second half, the former England player was impressed by his performance. After one hundred minutes had passed, Christian Eriksen ultimately took over for Garnacho as the starting pitcher.
During an interview with TNT Sports, Ferdinand stated, “When there is space to run into, Alejandro Garnacho can be a potential threat that is truly devastating.”
“Yes, he needs to work on that end product but he’s still a young and improving player so that will come.”
Additionally, he stated, “Stick with him.” It is my opinion that Manchester United should continue to go with him.
The Red Devils have made 50 appearances in all competitions so far in the 24/25 season, and Garnacho has managed to score 10 goals and provide nine assists in those games.
During the transfer season that took place in January, the striker was rumoured to be interested in leaving Old Trafford. Chelsea and Napoli were among the clubs who were rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services.
This coming weekend, United will be back in action in the Premier League when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon. This comes after United had a crazy night inside the Theatre of Dreams during the previous weekend.
