At halftime during Manchester United’s Europa League match against Lyon, two of the club’s most prominent players allegedly exited Old Trafford by themselves.
Following the conclusion of the first leg, which took place in France and resulted in a 2-2 draw, United returned to Old Trafford on Thursday night with the knowledge that a victory would ensure their spot in the semifinals of the Europa League.
At the interval, the team coached by Ruben Amorim had a 2-0 lead thanks to goals scored by Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot. This was the perfect way to get off to a good start.
Over the course of the second half, however, things began to fall apart as Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico scored goals to equalise the score at 2-2 and force the match to go into extra time.
At that point, with 109 minutes remaining on the clock, Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette startled Old Trafford by making it 4-2 in their favour.
Despite the fact that things appeared to be going poorly for United, they were able to pull off a remarkable comeback victory by scoring goals from Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire.
Having eliminated Rangers, United will now play Athletic Club in the semi-final. Athletic Club will be United’s opponent.
Following the conclusion of the game, it was reported that two talented players from Manchester United were compelled to depart Old Trafford at the halftime break.
Chris Wheeler, a reporter for the Daily Mail, tweeted on social media that “Noussair Mazraoui and Victor Lindelof both had to leave overtime tonight at half-time for urgent family issues which are said to be entirely unrelated.” Wheeler confirmed this information.
It was not possible for Lindelof to regain his position on the bench after Luke Shaw came on as a substitute for Mazraoui at the beginning of the second half.
After the game, Amorim made the following statement on the two players: “We had a problem with Noussa at half time.”
“Vic has a personal problem, he had to leave.”
Amorim continued by saying, “4-2 with one more player and you think it’s over.” This was a reference to the tumultuous night that took place at Old Trafford. But in this place, it is never gone. This was a wonderful evening, and I was viewing the documentary from 1999 once more in order to get inspiration for these scenes.
“It was the most awesome experience I’ve ever had in the stadium. Shirts and scarves are pieces of clothing that some people collect, but I want to save that sound because it is the finest sound in the world. As a result of the gridlock, I feel terrible for the folks who had to leave at four minutes past two; they will be devastated.
On the opposite side of the draw, another Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur, will compete against Bodo/Glimt, a Norwegian team, in order to decide who will advance to the championship match.
