At halftime, local police interfered in a heated confrontation that took place between Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal and Bukayo Saka. Saka was implicated in the altercation.
Real Madrid and Arsenal went into halftime at the Bernabeu without scoring a goal. The first half was an exciting 45 minutes, during which Saka missed his lines from the penalty spot after attempting a Panenka, and the video assistant referee denied the home team a penalty kick.
Following a comprehensive study, the match referee Francois Letexier reversed his first ruling, and the European Union Football Association (UEFA) issued a statement.
As both groups of players made their way down the tunnel, Saka came into conflict with Carvajal, who is not even participating in the game.
Before placing his hands on the England winger, Carvajal is seen on camera having a conversation with him.
During the time when Arsenal officials were intervening to diffuse the issue, it was obvious that Saka did not like Carvajal’s gesture.
The wounded Real defender was confronted by Ben White, who was sitting on the bench at the time of the incident. Local police were also present at the scene of the altercation.
After Saka’s penalty kick was saved by Thibaut Courtois in the early moments of their second-leg matchup, it would appear that Carvajal was attempting to keep Saka’s mind off of things before the second half of the match.
As Martin Keown expressed his dissatisfaction with the players’ decision, the Gunners star will be praying that his missed penalty does not turn out to be a decisive factor.
Keown stated the following when appearing on TNT Sports: “Bukayo Saka just gets it entirely wrong. It was a tremendous chance to put an end to this matter of concern.
When it comes to Saka’s penalty, former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson had the same feelings as Keown.
“Business-like is a good way to describe that first half performance from Arsenal,” he added on BBC Radio 5 Live. “That performance was extremely impressive.”
All of those elements, including team structure, awareness of what is necessary, and game management, have been done really effectively by them.
“Not only have they had to cope with a lot, but they have also produced a lot for themselves.
“They should be 1-0 up. The decision that Bukayo Saka made regarding the penalty kicks is one that I am not entirely sure about, but they are in a fantastic situation, and they will be incredibly thrilled to be heading into this game with a score of 0-0.
