A ‘leaked’ version of Scott McTominay’s weekly wage at Napoli has been made public, and the number is likely to come as a surprise to some Manchester United supporters.
Last summer, McTominay joined for Napoli for a reported amount of £25.7 million, bringing an end to his 22-year affiliation with Manchester United before he left the club.
After enduring a nightmare defence of the title they won in 2022/23, the Scot joined a team that had finished tenth in the previous Serie A season. The team had finished third in the previous season.
However, the club decided to hire Antonio Conte as their manager, and with the assistance of the Italian, they are currently in second place in the table. Other notable players that have been brought in include McTominay, Romelu Lukaku, and David Neres.
As a result of his eight goals scored in Serie A this season, McTominay has swiftly become a well-known character in the Italian media in his home country.
The Scot was awarded the Player of the Match award for his efforts in Monday’s 3-0 victory over Empoli, which resulted in two of those goals being scored.
McTominay is one of the biggest earners for Napoli, but the specific amount that he gets is significant when compared to the earnings of leaders in the Premier League.
The Scot is reportedly paid a salary of €5.56 million (£4.75 million) annually, which is equivalent to approximately €107,000 (£91,500) per week, as reported by Capology.
According to Spotrac, if the statistic is correct, it would place him below 15 other Manchester United stars in terms of annual earnings.
The two first team regulars at Old Trafford who make less than McTominay’s estimated income are Alejandro Garnacho (£2.7 million) and Kobbie Mainoo (£1.04 million). He earns slightly more than Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund (£4.4 million per year), who both earn more than McTominay.
The salary of the Scot is almost four times lower than that of the highest-paid player at United, Casemiro, who is a Brazilian midfielder and earns £18.2 million.
Additionally, it has been stated that his compensation at United was much lower than what he is currently earning.
During the month of March in the year 2024, the Daily Star reported that United were contemplating the possibility of offering the midfielder a new deal that would quadruple his current salary of sixty thousand pounds.
The Scot was granted permission to relocate to Italy, where he will be hoping to add a Scudetto to his trophy cabinet at the conclusion of this season. Of course, the contract was never agreed upon, and the Scot was permitted to depart.
