Premier League reveal first game that will feature semi-automated offsides as official statement released

It has been revealed that the first Premier League match which will feature semi-automated offsides will take place.

Following the completion of non-live testing in the Premier League and the implementation of live operation in the FA Cup during the current season, semi-automated offsides will finally be implemented in the major leagues.

An official statement was released on Tuesday afternoon, which read as follows: “The Premier League will introduce semi-automated offside technology on Saturday, April 12 (Match Round 32).” This follows the completion of live operations in the FA Cup and non-live testing in the Premier League during the current season.

For the purpose of providing assistance to the video assistant referee (VAR), semi-automated offside technology assists in the automation of key components of the offside decision-making process.

In addition to generating virtual graphics and providing a more effective placement of the virtual offside line through the utilisation of optical player tracking, it also ensures that fans have a better experience both inside the stadium and during broadcasts. This technology ensures that the process is not compromised in any way, while simultaneously enhancing the speed, efficiency, and consistency of decision-making that occurs offside.

“The Premier League has worked in collaboration with PGMOL and sports data and technology company Genius Sports to develop the new semi-automated offside technology system.”

An announcement was made regarding the first Premier League match to feature semi-automated offsides.
On Saturday, April 12, at 12:30 p.m., Manchester City will play Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium. This match will be the first to feature the new technology, and it will take place at the Etihad Stadium.
