Reece James reveals the real reason he didn’t celebrate after sensational free-kick for England against Latvia

After scoring a sensational free kick in his first international start since 2022, Reece James has now provided an explanation for his celebration.

Following the team’s victory in the Champions League in 2021, the captain of Chelsea would have been licking his lips in anticipation of the announcement that Thomas Tuchel would be taking over as the new manager of England.

The inclusion of James in the starting lineup for the match against Latvia was not the most surprising thing to see, and the full-back repaid Tuchel’s faith with a free kick that was an inch perfect to start the scoring at Wembley International Stadium.

Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon, along with hundreds of fans online, noticed that James did not appear to be showing any signs of celebration after the ball hit the net. James appeared to be extremely unfazed by the fact that he had scored his first goal for England.

After the game, James disclosed the true reason for his celebration, and unfortunately, it was not the cryptic message that many people had been hoping to hear.

“A celebration with a laid-back attitude? My surprise was that it was accepted… However, after watching the replay, it appears that the custodian had a particularly difficult time getting there’, James stated in his post-match interview.

In his own post-match interview, Tuchel was full of praise for James, explaining that it was not surprising to see him reach the levels that he did.

“Reecey is someone I know, and the foot and quality he possesses is truly remarkable. According to what Tuchel said to ITV, “He has every right to be proud and happy.”

The Chelsea star finally seems to have put his injury woes behind him after assuring fans that he was ‘fully available’ last week. Tuchel also confirmed that he does not have any concerns regarding James’ physical condition.

His physical condition is stellar. He has a very sharp appearance. He continued by saying, “The quality… there is no room for doubt.”

This season, James has already made more appearances for Chelsea than he did for the entirety of the previous season, in addition to making 11 appearances in the Premier League and two appearances in the Conference League.
