Thomas Tuchel announces first England squad as several surprise picks leave fans stunned

The first England squad that Thomas Tuchel has announced for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia includes a number of names that come as a surprise to the fans.

The Three Lions will begin their qualification campaign on March 23, when they will play Albania. The following day, on March 26, they will play Latvia. Both of the matches will take place at Wembley Stadium.

During the month of October, Tuchel signed a contract to become the manager of England for a period of 18 months. He officially assumed his position on January 1. It is now time for him to announce his first squad selection, which consists of twenty-six players.

The return of Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson, who has been preferred over players such as Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, is without a doubt something that stands out as the most notable aspect of the squad.

It has been more than a year since the 34-year-old player last competed for England, and it appeared as though his international career was over after Gareth Southgate did not include him in the squad that would compete in Euro 2024.

Marcus Rashford, who plays for Aston Villa, has been called back into the squad, as reported by The Athletic on Friday morning. It has been almost a year since he last featured for the national team, which was in a friendly match against Brazil.

This is the first time that his club teammate Morgan Rogers has been included in the squad, and Dan Burn, who plays for Newcastle, has also been called up for the first time.

An additional new member of the squad is Myles Lewis-Skelly, a young talent from Arsenal who has been promoted to the first team setup after having an outstanding season with the Gunners.

Alongside Jarell Quansah of Liverpool, Kyle Walker, who is currently enjoying a loan at AC Milan from Manchester City, has been selected to continue playing for the Nations League squad that was selected in November. This selection may be considered a surprising choice.

However, Jack Grealish and Ben White have not been included in this list. Both of these individuals have been excluded.

After making himself unavailable for previous squads, the Arsenal defender then met with Tuchel to discuss his return to the team. However, it appears that his absence did not help him return to the fold.
