Wrexham are facing competition from Hull City after submitting a record-breaking offer for a 15-goal striker.

Wrexham had a successful first season back in the Championship last year, despite missing out on the play-offs.

Nonetheless, it demonstrates how far the Red Dragons have come since their Hollywood owners purchased the club, and there will be hope that they will benefit from the new system, which will give the top eight a chance at promotion to the Premier League.

Furthermore, under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham will continue to invest, with market activity likely in the coming weeks.

While Phil Parkinson will seek to bolster several parts of the pitch, Wrexham are expected to be looking for at least one new attacker, with TEAMtalk reporting that Bamba Dieng is a target.

The Senegal international is without a club after leaving Lorient this summer, but the update clarifies that the 26-year-old will not have a free run with Wrexham.

They add that, while the Welsh club has offered Dieng a contract that would make him the highest-paid player in their history, he has other offers on the table.

Hull City, which can offer Premier League football, is interested in signing him, as are clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

However, they say that the’most likely’ conclusion right now is that Dieng would join a club in France or Spain, with Valencia, Real Betis, Sevilla, and Nice all interested in the player.

Dieng scored 10 goals in 22 games for Lorient in Ligue 1 last season, earning him a spot in Senegal’s World Cup team, however his sole appearance in the tournament came as a late substitute in their defeat to France.

Wrexham must focus on quality to enhance Phil Parkinson’s team this summer.

This was never going to be an easy transaction for Wrexham, given Dieng’s background and recent success in France.

So, when he became available on a free transfer, there was bound to be a lot of interest, and this has shown to be the case.

In some ways, it highlights how far Wrexham has come to compete with some of these clubs for a player, and proposing a record-breaking deal demonstrates the club’s ambition.

Clearly, getting Dieng over the line would be a huge coup, and he would contribute something unique to the squad with his quickness and direct approach.

That demonstrates the type of forward that Wrexham are looking for, and most would agree that they could benefit from someone with the quickness to go in behind and the ability to carry the ball.

Finally, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, and it will be difficult for Wrexham to sign Dieng when they are competing with top flight sides, but the club is correct to target high-quality individuals this summer, as they do not require an overhaul because the foundations are in place for the club to push for promotion this season.
