Wolves to Secure Promotion with Major Transfer Agreement Reached with Blackburn Rovers

Wolverhampton Wanderers are attempting to bounce back after being relegated to the Championship last season, and while things aren’t going well at Molineux right now, there are some concerning signals that a fall isn’t far off.

Wolves have one of the greatest teams in the Championship right now, especially on paper, with players like Jose Sa, Ladislav Krejčí, Kieran Trippier, Andre, Fer Lopez, and Raul Jimenez, to mention a few.

Cesar Peixoto, the Portuguese head coach, has been tasked with taking the Old Gold back to the Premier League at the first attempt, and as things stand, the 43-year-old could be in for a difficult time.

However, while the results have generally been favourable, there are some indicators that this may not continue for long.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are facing a potential striker crisis right now.

For a team vying for a league title, home form must be flawless, and Wolves haven’t quite met that standard this season.

Despite victories over Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, and Watford, they have yet to defeat Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, or Portsmouth, causing reasonable concerns at Molineux, as these are teams the Old Gold would normally expect to beat.

Raul Jimenez has been out of action since suffering an injury against Everton in the EFL Cup in mid-September, and Adam Armstrong has filled the void with little success, scoring only twice in ten league appearances, while Sean Neave has yet to be given a proper run of games to demonstrate his worth.

Wolves need a clinical goalscorer who can take games by the scruff of the neck, and they should be looking for a player who has previously scored against them this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers should recruit Europe’s most clinical striker, Blackburn Rovers’ Andri Gudjohnsen, come January.

Andri Gudjohnsen of Blackburn Rovers has recently made headlines for all the right reasons, as the Icelandic forward is in top form.

Andri, the son of former Barcelona, Chelsea, and Stoke City forward Eidur Gudjohnsen, has eight goals and one assist in just 11 league appearances for Blackburn this season, trailing only Middlesbrough’s Will Lankshear in the fight for the Championship golden boot.

According to the Not The Top 20 Podcast, Gudjohnsen is currently the most clinical striker in Europe’s top 10 leagues, with eight goals from just 16 shots, implying that the Icelandic international scores once every two shots.

Of course, there are obvious questions about whether this form can be sustained throughout the season, but with football in his blood and ice-cold finishing, the 24-year-old is bound to be on the shortlist of numerous clubs across Europe, as Wolves must seize the opportunity while it lasts.

Andri Gudjohnsen is having an incredible season with Blackburn Rovers, who will not want to lose the striker at any cost

Naturally, Blackburn will have little desire to sever company with Gudjohnsen anytime soon.

The 43-cap Icelandic international, who has spent time in the development systems of both Barcelona and Real Madrid, is under contract at Ewood Park until the summer of 2028, with Blackburn having the option to extend for another year if desired.

Gudjohsen, who previously played for Norrkoping, Lyngby, and Gent, joined Blackburn in the summer of 2025 for a fee of €2 million (£1.6 million), which today appears to be an absolute steal.

With only seven goals in 25 league appearances last season, Gudjohnsen has elevated his game, and while Blackburn will do whatever it takes to keep the Icelandic striker, they will also hope he continues to find the back of the net at a similar rate to increase his stock in case a lucrative sale becomes unavoidable.

Cesar Peixoto must push for a blockbuster Andri Gudjohnsen Wolverhampton Wanderers deal in January to secure his Premier League comeback.

By the January transfer window, it will be evident whether a new centre-forward is needed at Molineux.

If Jimenez’s injury issues continue, and neither Armstrong nor Neave are scoring on a regular basis, Wolves and Peixoto must bite the bullet and pay Gudjohnsen.

Still only 24 but approaching a half-century of caps for his country, Gudjohnsen has plenty of time to iron out the flaws in his game, and with the raw capacity to become one of Europe’s top strikers, Wolves should be eager to have first dibs on the next prospective great centre-forward.
