Will Lankshear was one of many exceptional players in Middlesbrough’s 5-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers, and he has delivered a post-match statement that Borough fans will appreciate.
Middlesbrough topped the league after a crushing victory in which Will Lankshear scored twice to go to the top of the goalscoring rankings, with no player scoring more league goals in the top four tiers of English football.
Boro’s victory was a statement, as Kim Hellberg’s side is now second only to West Ham in terms of Championship goals scored. Lankshear, a big-money summer signing from Tottenham Hotspur, has scored 11 of the team’s 27 goals.
Will Lankshear shares his opinions on playing for Middlesbrough and living in Teesside.
Lankshear talked with Middlesbrough’s media crew after the game about his love of Teesside, which was shared on Instagram. He said, “It’s so fun to be out there.” Yes, I think the lads were just great today. “I played well and was happy to win.”I’m madly in love with it. You know, this is now my home.
I absolutely love living in Middlesbrough. I really like the guys. “I admire this club’s ambition and wish it continued success.”We work so hard. Yeah, long days, but you know how hard the fellas work. We listen and take in information from the manager. And, ultimately, if you listen to what he says, we will do well. So, yeah, things are going well right now.”
When asked how much credit to give the management, Lankshear replied, “Massive.” Oh, it’s unbelievable. “He showed us a stat this week that showed our xG and xG against, and we are right up there with the best teams in the world.”So the football he has us playing is truly great. And it’s quite enjoyable. I’m continuously smiling, and I’m playing with such good players? It’s a pleasure to see at the top of the pitch there.”
On the fans, he said, “Outstanding.” Yes, they come out every week in large numbers to support us. We expressed our gratitude in the huddle and agreed to do it for them.Honestly, it’s insane. We are extremely appreciative, and we would be nothing without them. Thank you to everyone who came out.”
Will Lankshear’s goalscoring heroics for Middlesbrough
Lankshear has taken the Championship by storm since joining Middlesbrough, with the former Tottenham Hotspur striker already surpassing his goal tally from last season with Oxford United.
The young centre-forward’s poaching instincts have been evident from the start of his career, with his movement within the penalty area, anticipation, and ability to find space on defenders’ blindsides making him a constant threat.
Lankshear has inherent goalscoring instincts that cannot be taught. He knows where to position himself, reacts fast to loose balls while following shots in, and has the poise to punish opponents’ errors. Crucially, he has arrived in an atmosphere that complements his attributes, with Kim Hellberg’s attacking approach perfectly suited to optimising his capabilities.

He is the attack’s focal point, and Middlesbrough’s ability to move the ball, create opportunities, and get players forward should ensure Lankshear has the support he needs to prosper throughout the remainder of the 2026/27 Championship season.
If he maintains his present level of play, the 21-year-old has every reason to believe he can continue to score and establish himself as one of the Championship’s most dangerous attackers in recent years.
The top scorers in English football in 2026/27.
Lankshear is in good company when it comes to goal scoring, with Erling Haaland and Kyle Wootton offering the most comparable competition among England’s most prolific forwards.
The Middlesbrough striker has more goals than any other player in England’s top four divisions, demonstrating his remarkable start to life on Teesside in the Championship. In many respects, he has been the division’s standout player this season.
Haaland continues to set the standard for elite-level centre-forwards in the Premier League, while Wootton has established himself as one of League One’s most dependable number nines. Having the duo closest to him in the rankings speaks much about Lankshear’s effect in a league he has previously played in but has never been as prolific in, especially given the differences in demands between the divisions.
For a young striker still establishing himself in senior football, keeping up with such established goal scorers is important, and he is well on his way to becoming a Premier League footballer, with or without Borough. If he can maintain this form under Hellberg, Lankshear has a good chance of continuing to lead the way ahead of Cyle Larin and his teammates.
