In spite of the fact that he was shown a red card more than a week ago, Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, will continue to assist in the match against Manchester City on Sunday.
At the conclusion of the final Merseyside derby, which took place at Goodison Park, the Dutchman was shown a red card after his team’s match against Everton ended in a 2-2 draw.
As a result of Everton’s late equaliser, numerous individuals, including Slot, were given their marching orders by referee Michael Oliver. This occurred after tensions continued to rise.
Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah scored goals for Liverpool, which allowed them to come from behind and take the lead in the Premier League table. Liverpool appeared to be on track to extend their lead at the top of the table.
A thunderous goal scored by James Tarkowski in the 98th minute, however, earned the home team a share of the spoils and hampered their competitors’ attempts to win the championship.
A lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) check was performed to determine whether or not there was a possible foul or an offside. Additionally, the goal was awarded after referee Oliver ignored the fact that Salah had been tripped on the edge of the Everton penalty area.
On the other end of the pitch, David Moyes’s team dutifully came down and scored a crucial equaliser, which caused Slot to become enraged while standing on the sidelines.
Following the final whistle, the Reds manager engaged in a heated conversation with Oliver, even going so far as to give him an angry handshake, which ultimately resulted in the official showing Oliver a red card.
After some time had passed, on Thursday, the Premier League published a story on its website that suggested Slot would be forced to sit out of two games.
‘Offensive, insulting, or abusive language’ was allegedly the reason for Slot’s dismissal, and his assistant Spike Hulshoff was also dismissed from his position.
According to what they said, “Arne Slot, the head coach of Liverpool, was fired at the conclusion of the Merseyside derby for using language that was either offensive, insulting, or abusive.” As a consequence of this, he will suffer a two-match touchline suspension.
In spite of this, that particular section of the story about Slot’s suspension was removed just one hour later in order to create confusion regarding the suspension of the 46-year-old player.
Everton, Liverpool, Slot, and Slot’s assistant were all charged by the Football Association (FA), as was eventually confirmed on the previous Friday.
The following is an excerpt from a statement that describes the allegations: “It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure that their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative manner after the final whistle.”
“It is alleged that the manager of Liverpool behaved in an inappropriate manner and/or used words and/or behaviour that were insulting and/or abusive towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had concluded.
“It is alleged that Liverpool’s assistant manager behaved in an inappropriate manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official, which ultimately resulted in the official’s dismissal from his position.
After being sent off, it is further alleged that he behaved in an inappropriate manner, used words and/or behaviour that were insulting and/or abusive, and/or acted in a manner that was abusive to a match official.
“Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff have until next Wednesday, 19 February, to provide their respective responses.”
Those responses have been provided by them since then, and they have accepted the charges.
But the matter is now in the hands of the FA, who have not yet made a decision regarding the possible punishment for the two individuals.
A hearing is scheduled to take place over the next few days in order to come to a decision regarding what will be distributed accordingly.
Consequently, Slot, who has already served a touchline ban this season, was still permitted to be on the touchline during the matches against Wolves and Aston Villa that took place in the middle of the week, despite the charges that were brought against him.
And because he has not yet been given a suspension for his red card, he is still able to be on the sidelines for the match against Manchester City.
Slot, who had previously served as the head coach of Feyenoord, was not present for the successful Carabao Cup quarterfinal match against Southampton in December.
After receiving three yellow cards in the Premier League, he handed over the role of manager to Hulshoff for the match against the Saints, which resulted in a 2-1 victory.
If Slot and Hulshoff are going to be absent from a game in the near future as a result of their red cards received during the week, then John Heitinga might be the one to take their place.
In the summer of 2017, the former Everton defender became a member of Slot’s coaching staff at Liverpool. West Brom even expressed interest in purchasing his services as a manager.
