“VAR Cheated on Us today, How was he not rewarded a Yellow card on that?- Barcelona Manager Hansi Flick disappointed with the referee after not awarding A yellow card to Nuno Mendes after a Rough tackle on Lamine Yamal

Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League triumph over Barcelona, 2-1, demonstrated the team’s strength and endurance. The outstanding performance of left back Nuno Mendes, who was complimented by colleague Achraf Hakimi prior to the match as the “best left back in the world right now,” was a crucial element in their win.

Mendes’s Masterclass

Mendes lived up to Hakimi’s praise by restricting Barcelona’s standout forward Lamine Yamal for the majority of the game. Despite Yamal’s promising start, which included a stunning run early in the game, Mendes’ defensive abilities and tactical understanding limited the rookie forward’s influence. Mendes’ contribution to the game extended beyond defence, as his home run down the left side set up Senny Mayulu’s 38th-minute equaliser for PSG after Ferran Torres put the hosts ahead in the 19th minute.

PSG’s dominance

PSG dominated the second half, and Gonçalo Ramos’ 90th-minute goal sealed the triumph. This triumph was the first time a team had won three consecutive road games against Barcelona in key European championships. The triumph demonstrated PSG’s strength and depth, as well as coach Luis Enrique’s tactical brilliance.

Yamal’s Injury and Return

Yamal, 18, made his first start for Barcelona since August, having recovered from a pubic-area injury acquired while playing for Spain’s national team during the international break in September. Despite his injury layoff, Yamal showed flashes of brilliance but was eventually unable to overcome Mendes and the rest of the PSG team’s outstanding defensive performance.

Post-Match Reaction

PSG coach Luis Enrique was pleased with the team’s performance, emphasising the importance of their DNA and mentality. “I’m very pleased to see the younger players thriving in this match; learning, playing well, impressing our fans,” Enrique fumed. “We routinely play against high-level opponents. The most important thing to me is our DNA, our mindset – as a squad and as a club — and that’s exactly what we saw today.” The win boosted PSG’s confidence, and they will try to build on it in their next games.
