A man was discovered dead outside Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium prior to Sunday’s Premier League matchup with Nottingham Forest. The team has since released a statement.
Following what proved to be a fatal attack, police and ambulance services were called to a scene in the Northumberland Park area early on Sunday morning.
The man died from stab wounds, the Metropolitan Police later confirmed, and CPR was not successful in saving his life. Now, a thorough investigation has begun.
Tottenham announced on Sunday that their Premier League matchup with Forest will proceed according to schedule.
“Following an incident in which an individual has lost their life, we are doing everything to accommodate the ongoing Police investigation, which is of the utmost importance,” Spurs stated.
“The Premier League matchup between Nottingham Forest and us this afternoon will proceed as planned. On the other hand, the north end of Worcester Avenue, Vicarage Road, and the entirety of Northumberland Park Road will stay closed.
“We’ll provide supporters with updates as soon as we can, but we ask for their patience and extra time for travel. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and everyone who was impacted.”
Chief Inspector Stephen Johnston-Keay stated: “We are thinking of the man who has sadly passed away. I can reassure the community that specialized detectives are looking into what happened to him and will stop at nothing to find and apprehend those who are guilty.
“I want to express my gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience as we carry out this important task. Please let us know if you have any information, no matter how small, that could be of use to us. Officers will be present in the cordons and on patrol, and they will be willing to speak with you.
Supporters are cautioned by Spurs that they might require additional travel time to get to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
