The EFL chief has provided a key update on a manager’s future, with promotion hopes hanging in the balance.

Hull City chairman Acun Ilicali maintains that manager Sergej Jakirovic’s position is ‘100 percent safe’, regardless of how the season turns out.

On the final day of the season, the Tigers secured a Championship play-off spot with a 2-1 win over Norwich, beating Wrexham to sixth place.

Hull, on the other hand, were on a six-game losing streak, including potentially expensive defeats to Sheffield United and Charlton.

Jakirovic’s side will face Millwall in the play-off semi-finals, with the winner facing Middlesbrough or Southampton later this month at Wembley.

To Hull and back.

Ilicali is ‘very delighted’ with the former Kayserispor manager, whose position is secure regardless of the outcome of the play-offs.Even if he didn’t make it to the playoffs, he was completely secure,” Ilicali told Sam Matterface, Alex Crook, and Gabby Agbonlahor on talkSPORT on Friday morning.

“Some people misunderstand me. Results are not the only reason that I make a decision.”I held a Q&A session with our fans the day before the important game against Norwich. I requested it one day in advance to ensure everyone understands our feelings against our coach. Our instructor has a distinct personality, a strong character, and a pleasant demeanor. He is an excellent coach.During a pre-game meeting with 300 fans, I assured them that our coach, Sergej, would be in charge the following season.People say that about Liam [Rosenior], ‘Ah, he was seventh, they sent him [go].’ Liam is a brilliant coach, I adore him, and he went on to great things after us.”

Ilicali went on to say that Jakirovic provided the kind of play he desired, adding, “But, everyone likes one style of football.

“You don’t enjoy every type of football. Some individuals prefer long balls and a rugby-style game, while others prefer a more technical approach.Brazil never plays in the same way as Iceland. Everyone has their own taste in football.I want attacking football. I said this as soon as I bought the club. I want attacking football. “I want to be entertained and achieve good results together.””While results are important, I want my players to focus on both attacking and defending, as Sergej demonstrated recently.”I am quite delighted with him.”

Hull have a decent record against Millwall, but they fell 3-1 at home to the south London club in March.

However, the Tigers defeated the Lions at The Den in December, as Hull seeks to return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign.

However, Jeff Stelling believes Millwall will defeat Hull and advance to the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
