Sheffield United linked with a potential new signing, prompting a ‘difficult’ response.

Sheffield United will be looking to rebound from a poor season next year.

Just a year ago, the Blades were the play-off contention for promotion, but Chris Wilder’s team finished 13 points behind the top six in 2026.

The Yorkshire club is expected to have a busy summer as they attempt to use the transfer market to boost their chances of moving back up the league table.

The play-offs will grow to include two more teams in 2027, boosting their chances of promotion.

However, they must first make the most of the next several months to increase the squad’s overall quality.

Football Insider reports that Sheffield United is one of three Championship clubs interested in acquiring Rapid Vienna midfielder Romeo Amane.

Romeo Amane requires physical attributes to flourish at Sheffield United.

When asked about the potential of signing Amane, FLW’s Sheffield United fan commentator Jimmy stated that he hasn’t been impressed with what he has learned about the player thus far.

While he believes the midfielder is skilled, he is doubtful of his physical ability to compete on a regular basis in the Championship, given how physically demanding it can be.

“I always find these signings really difficult to judge,” Jimmy told Football League World.

“So, yeah, he has played in the Conference League. How did he perform in those games? What level of opposition was it facing?

“His statistics are acceptable, but not outstanding.

“What qualities does he bring? The Championship is a physical league.

“Is he a physical player? Is he robust? Can he play 40 games in a season where we’ll need him? If he’s someone we’re considering, he’ll definitely be on the roster.

“I’m confident if we’re affiliated with him, he’ll have potential, but I can’t make an opinion until I watch him play or learn more about him than what’s published.

“It’ll have to be wait and see what he can bring.”

Last season, Amane made 31 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga, helping Rapid Vienna finish fifth in the table.

He contributed three assists and was a crucial player in the team, prompting speculation about his future.

Sheffield United will compete with Birmingham City and Wrexham for his services in English football.

The 23-year-old spent two years in Austria, joining for the European club from BK Hacken in 2025 after progressing through their academy system.

The midfielder appeared in six Conference League games as Rapid Vienna finished last in the League Phase table.

If Sheffield United signs him, he might help offer depth in an area where four players have already left this summer.

Jairo Riedewald and Tom Davies both left when their contracts expired, and Kalvin Phillips returned to Manchester City after his loan term ended, while Djobril Soumaré’s loan also expired.

However, it has been stated that the Blades are interested in bringing the Premier League player back to Bramall Lane for next season, but it is unclear whether an agreement can be made.

Sheffield United will need to bolster their midfield.

Sheffield United have had a lot of midfield exits and are left with only a few choices, so it’s not surprise that they’re linked with Amane.

The 23-year-old is still young and has room for improvement, plus he has European experience.

It will all depend on the potential cost of a transaction, but it is a move that Sheffield United may benefit from.

Returning to a strong competitive level will necessitate taking some risks in the transfer market now that the club will not be getting parachute payments, and this is the type of move that the Blades should consider.
