Just four players have tallied more Premier League goals than former Manchester City star Sergio Aguero, who scored a stunning 184 times in just 275 matches.
Given this, it’s difficult to think of many strikers in the history of the competition who are better than the Argentinean. In addition to being a dependable linkman up front and possessing the technical skills to succeed in the possession-heavy Citizen’s team that dominated English football for years, he was deadly in front of goal, as the figures show.
Although Aguero is now quite skilled with his hands as well, it’s safe to say that he was quite good with his feet. He appears to have found a new career in racing after hanging up his boots in 2021, and he will be competing in Miami next month.
Aguero Finds a New Career in Racing
He is set to race a 200mph car next month
In an interview with The Sun, Aguero spoke about his new step into racing, and the similarities to the sport he previously starred in. He stated:
“Football is with your feet, racing is with your hands. But you have to be extremely focused and avoid mistakes in both football and racing.
Next month, the 36-year-old will compete against athletes like Brooklyn Beckham and Tom Felton in Miami while driving a 200 mph Formula E car. He is now honing his Porsche talents on the track and in simulations in order to be ready for the event.
He is clearly a huge fan of racing as well, giving Lewis Hamilton, the Ferrari driver and Formula One sensation, a lot of praise:
“This year, next year, and next year, I hope Hamilton wins every race and every championship. He is the best in my opinion.
Aguero’s Career Tragically Ended Early
He announced his retirement at 33
Many people believed that Aguero could still have had a few more years left in his football career if not for regrettable injury setbacks, so it’s encouraging to see him choose a new activity to devote his attention to. Distressed by the defeat, he made the decision to leave Manchester City for Barcelona in search of a fresh start after playing his final match for the team in the 2021 Champions League final.
Aguero was admitted to the hospital a few months into his Blaugrana deal, though, after experiencing concerning chest pains while playing in a league match against Alaves. After being replaced and admitted to the hospital, he was found to have a heart ailment that would prevent him from playing for three months.
However, after an unforgettable 18-year senior career, he had already played his final game in Barcelona colors and made the decision to put up his boots.
“I was in good hands of the medical staff who have done their best and have told me the best thing would be to stop playing.
“I want to tell everyone I did everything possible to have hope, but there wasn’t very much.”
Aguero Enjoyed an Illustrious Football Career
He won numerous titles and accolades for club and country
When Aguero first started terrorizing defenses for Atletico Madrid, it was easy to see the immense potential he possessed. In addition to winning the Golden Boy award in 2007, he assisted the Colchoneros in winning the Europa League in 2010.
He was soon courted by Manchester City in 2011 and became one of the league’s best center-forwards during his ten years at the Etihad. Aguero won an FA Cup, six League Cups, and an incredible five league titles overall.

The first one, in 2012, when Aguero scored in the final seconds of the game against QPR on the last day of the Premier League to win the title on goal differential, will undoubtedly be the most memorable of the five. In the end, it was Manchester City’s first-ever competition victory, and the event itself is remembered as one of the most memorable in the history of the sport.
Together with Argentinean legend Lionel Messi, Aguero helped his team win the Copa America championship in 2021. Even though he lost 1-0 to Germany in the 2014 final, the nation’s third-highest scorer in history was only a few seconds away from winning the World Cup as a player.
He might have played a part in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory if he hadn’t been forced to retire early. Still, he accompanied many of his former teammates on the tour and was able to win the trophy with them.
