Mohamed Salah and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp got into a heated argument on the sidelines during their 2-2 draw with West Ham, effectively ending their chances of winning the Premier League title.
“If I speak today there will be fire,” said Mohamed Salah as he walked out of London Stadium after a heated altercation with Jurgen Klopp on the touchline during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham.
Just after Michail Antonio tied the score for the Hammers, the Egypt international was heard yelling at Klopp while waiting to replace him. Darwin Nunez, a teammate, intervened to stop him as the argument got out of control.
Salah made it plain that he was not happy with the draw as he made his way out of the stadium, effectively ending the Reds’ hopes of winning the championship.
While occupied with his post-match press conference, Klopp responded, “That’s my impression, yes,” when asked if he thought the matter was resolved.
Furthermore, Salah turned down the chance to speak with the media before catching the bus back because he was concerned that his remarks would be too controversial.
After Liverpool gave up their second goal against West Ham United, Salah and Klopp got into a heated argument on the sidelines.
The striker was set to make three substitutions in an attempt to salvage a share of the Premier League title for Liverpool. However, as Antonio headed in Jarrod Bowen’s cross to tie the score at two, TV cameras captured Salah and Klopp arguing angrily.
Then, it was observed that Darwin Nunez, who was also joining the triple change, was stepping in and extending an arm in an effort to defuse Salah.
It’s possible that the argument started because the replacements took longer than expected to arrive, but it’s not clear who expressed the ire initially.
Nine minutes remained in the game when Salah finally joined the fray. Near the end of a subpar first half, Bowen had given West Ham the lead before Andy Robertson gave the Reds back parity. Additionally, Cody Gakpo’s shot gave Liverpool, who had made five changes from the Merseyside derby loss at Everton midweek, the lead after it deflected off three Hammers players and into the goal.
However, if Klopp is to cap off his career with a second Premier League title, Liverpool will now need an incredible collapse from Arsenal and Manchester City thanks to Antonio’s header. With one more game played, they are currently in third place, two points behind the Gunners.
