After serious problems with referees and president Javier Tebas, Real Madrid is considering leaving La Liga and joining another league.
Last season, Los Blancos won their 36th La Liga championship, making them the most successful team in the league’s history.
As of right now, they are still ahead of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the table, but Real has been incensed about what they see to be several injustices against them.
Jude Bellingham was sent off for a comment during the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna, which the referee regarded to be dissent. If his remarks are ruled offensive, he could face a 12-game suspension.
Real Madrid considers Tebas to be their worst enemy as they feel he is exploiting them and “leading a crusade” against the team, according to a SPORT article.
The club may try to “request asylum in the Bundesliga, Serie A, or Ligue One,” according to the article, and supporters on social media are calling for the team to leave the Spanish top division due to their displeasure with the top management.
It would be a difficult procedure that would need both FIFA’s sanction and La Liga’s own approval to allow the exit of what is undoubtedly their largest team.
Real would also require UEFA’s approval, which could be difficult given that they were instrumental in the rival European Super League’s eventual ban because to intense fan opposition.
However, a new proposal that would “democratise football by allowing fans everywhere to watch” for free was reported in December, effectively relaunching the Super League.
Although Real’s current situation may hasten the process, it was claimed that the goal would be to launch the competition in September 2026.
SPORT reports that Real Madrid “will not stop studying the possibility of also moving forward with a European Super League that will distance them from Tebas” .
Despite their negative feelings following the draw with Osasuna, the team is focused on Wednesday’s Champions League play-off second leg against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bellingham’s last-minute victory at the Etihad Stadium last week put Real ahead 3-2.
