Notwithstanding his lack of playing time for Manchester City this season, Matheus Nunes has shown himself to be the perfect teammate. After video of the £53 million summer acquisition appeared on the City bench during Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham, it was evident that he had made a smooth transition to the Etihad Stadium.

Only seven Premier League games have Nunes started since he joined the defending champions in September. His lack of playing time isn’t hurting him, though, as he seems to be a top professional.

The 25-year-old was not used as a substitute in City’s victory over Spurs, which put them in a strong position to win the championship on the last day. He gave a distraught Ederson a helping hand while seated on the bench.

Ederson was angry after being replaced due to an eye injury, and he vented his resentment on the dugout seats at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. When the goalkeeper started crying, Nunes covered his teammate with an extra coat to console him.

Subsequently, Nunes was spotted giving two-goal scorer Erling Haaland a strong handshake. It is evident that Nunes is a well-liked member of the City team even though he hasn’t played much this season.

With a full preseason under his belt, the former Wolves star will be hoping for more playing time in the upcoming campaign. He recently showed off his admiration for manager Pep Guardiola, perhaps indicating that he wants to stick around and compete for a spot in the starting lineup.

“He is unique in his kind. He simply pays close attention to every little detail, and he is daily driven and intense in his demands of both the players and the game. Because we are under so much pressure to win every game, he doesn’t let us unwind,” Nunes stated to the official City website.

Whether we are playing for the Cup against a team in the sixth division or Real Madrid, he is always there when we kick back and it’s the best. There may be times when we kick back a little bit.

“Everyone expected the team to be relaxed this season after winning the Triple Crown last year, but there is no time for relaxation because he wants to win repeatedly.”It fits in very well with the players he brings here because they all have similar thought processes. Every player has the mindset to win every single week, regardless of who leaves or is added.
