During his time away from the field, the Manchester United player has made a positive impact. On Sunday, the Red Devils striker sent an open letter to lawmakers, urging them to reconsider the program’s cancellation.
On Monday, a representative from the Department of Education confirmed that the program will conclude as scheduled at the end of the academic year.
But Rashford promised to keep running for office.
The government changed its mind and stated today that it would be sponsoring the free meals program for another year at a cost of £120 million.

As a Twitter post, the footballer said: “I don’t even know what to say” after the announcement. This is England in the year 2020; just look at our combined capabilities.
“I don’t claim to have the education of an MP in parliament, but I do have a social education,” Rashford wrote in Tuesday’s The Times.
“Since I was one of the 1.3 million vulnerable children in the UK registered for free school meals a decade ago, I am well-versed in the impact that a decision to reverse course would have on them.”
Rashford thanked the lawmakers for providing families with “one less thing to worry about” in a statement he sent “to all MPs” after the confirmation of the U-turn.

“This was never about politics, it was never about me or you. It was a cry out for help from vulnerable parents all over the country, and all I did was give them a platform to be heard,” he continued.
Knowing that we have paid attention and done the right thing makes me proud today.
I appreciate you all, and I know we still have a ways to go, but at least these families have one less thing to worry about for the night.
“No matter what, our children’s welfare must take precedence.”

The footballer, who is 22 years old, is childless.
Since joining United at the tender age of seven, Rashford has played in every Premier League season since 2016.
Ronaldo, a Brazilian striker, was his childhood hero when he was a boy growing up in Wythenshawe, Manchester.
