According to reports, Liverpool is considering making an official offer for Dani Olmo, a target for Chelsea and Manchester United.
Olmo has continued to have a successful season at RB Leipzig, playing as a right winger, left winger, or central attacking midfielder in 25 games while recording eight goals and five assists. If the versatile forward hadn’t been sidelined by injuries at the end of the season, he probably would have contributed to many more goals.
Leipzig is well-known for their business strategy, which entails paying little money to acquire young players who will eventually develop into elite players and turn a sizable profit. Olmo might be the most recent player to accomplish that.
Recently, the 26-year-old has found himself on Barcelona’s shortlist. Olmo was a youth player at Barca before departing as a teenager in July 2014, so he is well acquainted with the club.
However, the La Liga powerhouses will find it difficult to match Olmo’s Leipzig release clause with a €60 million (£51 million) transfer fee.
Because of this, Premier League teams are now chasing the player more intensely than Barcelona.
Olmo has been connected to Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester City. It was even suggested earlier this month that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would make two bids for Gleison Bremer, the Juventus center-half and playmaker.
However, it was revealed on May 12 that Liverpool had entered the search for Olmo. Furthermore, new reports from Spain indicate that Olmo’s chances of joining Anfield are increasing.
Transfers to Liverpool: Dani Olmo is a fascinating target
Arne Slot is a huge fan of the Spain international, and Liverpool officials are discussing whether to make Leipzig an offer for him.
Liverpool will need to move quickly if they hope to sign Olmo for a fair price. According to the report, his Leipzig £51 million release clause expires on July 15.
Leipzig will be able to demand any price for him after that date. And considering the attacker’s elegant performances and the fact that his Leipzig contract expires in June 2027, that is probably going to be much more than £51 million.
Liverpool’s future may be decided before or even during this summer’s Euros if they start negotiations with Leipzig before July 15. When they play Albania, Croatia, and Italy in the Euros group stage, the Bundesliga star will be looking to add more caps to his 33 for Spain.
Olmo, who can play on either flank, may be able to assist Liverpool in replacing Mo Salah or Luis Diaz. Depending on the formation Slot chooses to employ, Olmo can also play at the top of Liverpool’s midfield.
Olmo will require assistance if he is to replace Salah because he is not as effective as Liverpool’s Egyptian king in the closing third. Danny Murphy, a former Reds midfielder, has already pleaded with the team to sign two attackers to take Salah’s goal threat.
