After breaking into the starting lineup this season under Jurgen Klopp, Calum Scanlon has been rewarded with a new contract by Liverpool for his efforts.

The 19-year-old has impressed since joining from Birmingham City in February 2021, and as a result, he has signed an extended agreement.

Joining Liverpool on a professional contract in March 2022, Scanlon has worked his way up the Academy’s ranks to become a regular for the under-21 team. In October, he made his senior debut after coming off the bench for the final 24 minutes of a 5-1 Europa League group stage win at home against Toulouse.

In a huge injury boost for Liverpool, four players have returned to full training in preparation for their match against Atalanta.

Liverpool’s new manager is the most recent development following allegations regarding Ruben Amorim’s contract

The young left-back, who has played further upfield on occasion for the Academy, has been a fixture in the first team’s training sessions this season and made an approximately 30-minute appearance in December’s Europa League group stage match against Union Saint-Gilloise. Earlier in the season, he was named to the bench for Everton’s and Brentford’s Premier League home matches.

As a member of Liverpool U21s, Scanlon competed in the EFL Trophy and scored in the club’s historic 3-0 triumph over Morecambe in September. Scanlon is an England U19 international.

What’s next?

After recovering from injuries, Diogo Jota, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Stefan Bajcetic are back in Liverpool’s regular training regimen.

As plans come together for their new manager, Liverpool announce an updated preseason friendly date.
