Lionel Messi makes Inter Miami contract decision amid Barcelona return rumours

Messi is said to have no intention of participating in a second stint, and it is more likely that he will remain in Miami. This is due to the fact that Messi and Laporta have a number of disagreements.

Balague wrote on X, “There are a couple of things connected to this story.”

“Messi’s contract will expire at the conclusion of the current season. Messi does not intend to take a trip back to Barcelona at this time. During the time that Laporta is in charge, I would say that it is impossible. Inter Miami will almost certainly be successful in persuading him to return to the club.

The all-new 32-team Club World Cup will take place in the United States during the summer, and Messi will be leading Inter into the competition. He will be accompanied by former Barcelona teammates, including manager Javier Mascherano and teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.

The club hopes to have Messi on their roster by the time the year 2026 arrives and the club relocates to Miami Freedom Park, a 131-acre development that will include a new stadium with a capacity of 25,000, in addition to an entertainment district, sports facilities, and a hotel. There have been rumours that Lionel Messi wants to go back to Barcelona, but it has been reported that he has already made his decision regarding his future.

Messi’s glittering spell with the Blaugrana came to an end in 2021, when financial issues and La Liga restrictions made it difficult to sign him to a new deal. Messi had scored a record 672 goals for the club in 778 games during his time with the Blaugrana.

Following this, he became a free agent and made the announcement of his departure during an emotional press conference. Subsequently, he signed with Paris Saint-Germain and went on to win two titles in the Ligue One competition.

In 2023, the eight-time winner of the Ballon d’Or made a move that changed the game by joining David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer (MLS). This move took the league to new heights both on and off the pitch.

During his time with the Herons, the 37-year-old forward has scored 36 goals in 42 games, leading the team to victory in both the Leagues Cup and the MLS Supporters’ Shield.

However, there have been numerous rumours that Messi will return to Barcelona, despite the fact that his lucrative contract is set to expire on December 31, 2025.

Alex Candal, a journalist who was the first to report on Messi’s decision to move across the pond, asserted that Messi is eager to re-sign with Barcelona and play in the renovated Nou Camp once it is finished being constructed.

It was reported that Messi made the following statement: “I can’t stop without having first played at the new Camp Nou.”

Nevertheless, Messi’s former biographer Guillem Balague has responded to the reports and emphasised that Messi’s return to Barcelona is more or less “impossible” while Joan Laporta is serving as the president of the club.
