Kieran McKenna addresses Chelsea interest for first time after manager shortlist drawn up

Fermanagh native Kieran McKenna achieved back-to-back promotions with Ipswich Town

Popular For the first time, Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, has acknowledged Chelsea’s interest.
For the third time in less than two years, the Blues are searching for a new permanent manager after Mauricio Pochettino departed on Tuesday by mutual consent. Among other reasons, he had disagreements with club executives regarding their vision for the team.

McKenna, who led Ipswich to incredible back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League in his first managerial position, is one of the front-runners for the Stamford Bridge opening.

McKenna, 38, was named LMA’s Manager of the Year and Championship Manager of the Year just hours after Pochettino’s departure.

When asked about interest in him, McKenna told Sky Sports, “There’s always going to be speculation when you do well as a manager, or as a player.” Former team Manchester United has also been linked to him.

“Since what we have accomplished is extraordinary, conjecture will inevitably arise.

“But that’s not what I’m thinking about tonight; it’s about what the football team, including myself and everyone else, has accomplished over the last two seasons and last season.

“We’re celebrating a great couple of years together tonight.” I am aware that everyone is eagerly anticipating the upcoming season, and I also know that the team will be in excellent shape entering it.
