During his final club pre-match press conference on Friday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made one last jab at the Premier League referees. Following Wolves’ complaint, the division will vote on whether to keep VAR going forward. The departing German head coach has stated that he would be in favor of banning the technology.

The proposed removal of VAR from English top-flight clubs will be put to a vote the following season. Wolves’ proposal is scheduled to be discussed at a shareholders’ meeting on June 6.

Although the Premier League board is believed to be opposed to such a possibility, Klopp acknowledged that he would be in favor of doing away with VAR as it currently exists in response to complaints from clubs throughout the season and ongoing controversy surrounding decisions.

“I think they are voting about how VAR gets used because it is definitely not right,” Klopp stated. “These folks are unable to use it appropriately. The issue is not with VAR. I would vote to do away with VAR as it currently exists.”

During Liverpool’s match against Tottenham in October, Luis Diaz’s goal was mistakenly disallowed for offside. This was one of the most controversial decisions made by VAR.

VAR When Diaz was called offside with the score at 0-0, Darren England and assistant Dan Cook did not overrule. Joel Matip’s own goal in the 96th minute caused Liverpool to lose 2-1.
