John Mousinho has issued a fresh update on Portsmouth FC’s financial demands in relation to Michael Eisner.

Although Portsmouth has managed to hold onto their Championship position for a another season, manager John Mousinho has made clear financial demands going forward.

After an incredible season, Frank Lampard’s team was named second-tier champions after Pompey was crushed 5-1 by Coventry City on Tuesday night.

Wrexham’s 1-0 victory over Oxford United, Portsmouth’s relegation rivals at the time, ensured Portsmouth’s survival despite their crushing loss to the Sky Blues.

With two games left, John Mousinho’s team is presently seven points ahead of the Championship relegation zone.

Michael Eisner receives an investment message from John Mousinho as Portsmouth wins the Championship.

After winning League One in 2024, Mousinho has led Portsmouth to second-tier survival for the second time this season.

Pompey can still surpass their 54 points total from the previous season if they win and draw their next two Championship games, which are against Stoke City and Birmingham City.

Mousinho has, however, addressed the steps that the Fratton Park team must now take to guarantee that they advance further in the future.

According to BBC Sport, the 39-year-old said: “The investment we’ve put in terms of the infrastructure has been amazing, considering where we were as a club (when Michael Eisner completed his takeover) in 2017 and previously, when the fans saved the club.”However, we still lag far behind other Championship teams in terms of personnel networks, training facilities, and other infrastructure, so we must continue. We need to decide where we want to be with the playing budget, and I believe that will be discussed over the coming weeks.I believe we’ll be in this relegation battle forever if we don’t make investments both on and off the field, therefore we should try to get out of it.”

Mousinho added: “The strategy over the past couple of years has been very short-term, and we’ve just been making sure we are focused on staying in the Championship.”Although we have invested money, the players we have acquired may not be long-term prospects.

Before being defeated by Lampard’s team, Portsmouth demonstrated their value by winning consecutive games against Middlesbrough, Ipswich Town, and Leicester City. However, they gave a bad account of themselves in their 5-1 loss to Coventry.

After losing 6-1 to Queens Park Rangers in March and failing to win a game, the Fratton Park team appeared bound for an unwelcome return to League One.

But just after losing to QPR, they went on a five-game winning streak that includes the previously mentioned victories over Boro, the Tractor Boys, and the Foxes.

If Portsmouth doesn’t satisfy John Mousinho’s financial demands, they could lose him.

Mousinho, who is only 39 years old, has shown himself to be a very promising young manager by guiding Portsmouth to League One success before securing their Championship position for two straight seasons.

Other second-tier teams, many of which have invested more in their teams and facilities than Pompey, are probably interested in him because of his remarkable achievements at Fratton Park.

Mousinho would have preferred a more comfortable season after leading the Hampshire team to second-tier survival in 2025.

But until their penultimate away game of the season, Portsmouth’s concerns about relegation persisted.

Therefore, if Pompey owner Eisner doesn’t agree to Mousinho’s demands for investment, the 39-year-old might be persuaded to transfer to another team if he receives an alluring offer.

If Portsmouth doesn’t improve next season, the former Oxford United player should have the chance to lead a team with fewer concerns about relegation.
