For the sake of his career, Rasmus Hojlund ought to have delayed his transfer to Manchester United, according to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

The pressure was on the 21-year-old to be United’s solution to the center-forward dilemma they had faced for several seasons before he arrived at Old Trafford. Hojlund took some time to settle into the Premier League, but in the Champions League, he was scoring goals for fun, and this form quickly carried over to the top division.

Following his first Premier League goal on Boxing Day, the Dane scored in five straight starts after going on a scoring binge against Aston Villa. But a muscle injury halted his progress, and since making his starting lineup comeback, he has only managed one goal in his last seven games.

Speaking on the Sky Bet-sponsored Stick to Football podcast, Carragher said he felt bad for Hojlund because of his situation. “I feel a bit sorry for Hojlund, he’s a young lad, the jump he has made is probably a bit too much for him to start with,” he stated.

“He ought to have spent two years somewhere else before possibly joining United. I simply feel bad for him.”

Carragher thinks Hojlund might have regretted joining United too quickly, but the 46-year-old steadfastly supported him after witnessing what Antony did during Monday night’s 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace. Players cover their mouths and converse with one another; do you know why this bothers me?

You’re watching Monday Night Football on the same old TV that everyone else is using. As Manchester United counterattacked in the second half, Antony played a ball through to Hojlund. After a little misunderstanding, Antony threw his arms at Hojlund.

“I detest that even after they retreat and defend a corner, he continues to do it. I understood what Antony was talking about when he was coming off. He is referring to both the manager and one of the players. He’s not talking about the players’ future plans.

“I detest all of that whispering after a disappointing loss. I’m not having it when they talk about someone. On the plane and on the way home, you can picture the coach. It is likely that Hojlund is sitting there thinking he is the center of attention.”

Hojlund’s first season at United may not have been ideal, but it hasn’t been nearly as awful as Antony’s, who has only managed three goals and two assists in all competitions this year.
