“He’s just too strong and quick; Arteta has made him a very dangerous player. He doesn’t even give opponents a chance to breathe.”A Skysport pundit praised the quick-witted Arsenal star, saying that he has greatly improved since Mikel Arteta was brought in. Not Martinelli, not Saka, and not Saliba
Since Mikel Arteta was hired, the 23-year-old “Electric” Arsenal player has improved more than anyone else.
Since Mikel Arteta arrived, Arsenal has seen numerous players improve, but one in particular has stood out more than the others: Nelson Reiss.
The recent graduate of the Hale End academy performed admirably for Arsenal last night against PSV Eindhoven coming off the bench.
Nelson also makes an impact in every game he enters, even though he doesn’t have many early opportunities.
Nelson has always been regarded as a gem of the academy, but for a while it appeared as though he would eventually leave the team.
Upon his return, the England under-21 international’s squad position did not significantly change from when he went on loan to TSG Hoffenheim and Feyernoord.
But last season, it became increasingly evident that Mikel Arteta did believe Nelson could have an impact for Arsenal.
Now, a player who appeared to be on the outside of the Gunners’ matchday roster was being relied upon to preserve points.
And while some have made significant progress, such as Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli, few have experienced the kind of shift in trajectory that Nelson has.
Nelson is the Arsenal player who has improved the most under Arteta.
Naturally, Nelson’s largest task going forward will be to figure out how to initiate games.
Nelson still needs to establish his value right away, even though he has shown he is a focused and energized opponent in the latter stages of the game.
And the 23-year-old needs to remove Leandro Trossard, Martinelli, or Bukayo Saka in order to accomplish that.
The size of the task is apparent.
Naturally, “electric” Nelson is hoping to earn Arteta’s starting spot for Arsenal’s cup matches this season.
Players on Arteta’s squad should have plenty of opportunities in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
And Nelson seems eager to go if his cameo from last night is any indication.
Nelson may still find it challenging to establish a long-term career at Arsenal, but he has advanced further than anybody else in recent years.
A player who frequently appeared destined to leave the team.
