Fresh Josh Windass Update Emerges Ahead of Wrexham’s Clash with West Brom

Phil Parkinson has revealed that Josh Windass will miss Wrexham’s forthcoming midweek game against West Brom.

The forward was replaced 15 minutes into the Red Dragons’ match against Derby County on Saturday.

The Rams led 1-0 after just eight minutes thanks to Sammie Szmodics, and the Welsh side’s misery was increased when the 32-year-old was replaced shortly later.

However, Ollie Rathbone’s 88th-minute equaliser ensured that the visitors left Pride Park with a point.

Wrexham have won just one of their last five league games, and the club hopes to contend for a play-off spot again after finishing eighth in 2025/26.

Windass was a vital part of their journey to the top half of the Championship, with 16 goals and five assists in 41 appearances, but he is yet to score in six league games this season.

Phil Parkinson delivers Josh Windass’ injury update.

Parkinson has allayed concerns about Windass’ injury, suggesting that it is not as catastrophic as the club had feared, but that he will be away midweek for the match against West Brom.

The Wrexham manager did not provide an immediate timeline for his ankle injury, but stated that he ruptured his ligaments and had to leave the game on Saturday at Pride Park.”It’s very swollen, and he had a scan,” Parkinson told the BBC.

“It’s not as serious as we first feared.”He landed on his foot, causing ligament damage.

“Josh is going to need time for that swelling to come out of the ankle joint.”

Windass is an important member of the Wrexham first team, and his loss will be felt by the team.

However, he has yet to score this season, with only one assist in six Championship outings.

The 32-year-old signed with the Red Dragons as a free agent during the summer transfer window in 2025, and he is under contract with the club until June 2028.

Wrexham’s Championship campaign has been dismal. With Windass’s injury on Saturday, Parkinson would certainly be grateful for a point at Pride Park.

However, the Welsh side has only won one of its last five league games, including a 6-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham prior to the international break.

The Red Dragons are presently 15th in the Championship league, with 11 points from their first nine games, and are already nine points behind leaders Swansea City.

Wrexham’s next game comes at home against the Baggies on Tuesday at 7.45pm.

Josh Windass’ injury is yet another blow to Wrexham.

Even if Windass misses only one or two games, this is a significant loss for Wrexham at this moment.

Parkinson’s side is now without Callum Doyle, Matty James, and Ben Sheaf as they enter a demanding stretch in the calendar.

The redeeming grace is that it is not as catastrophic as previously thought, as a 15th-minute substitution would have had the club expecting a lengthy lay-off due to injury.

Wrexham will still need a result by midweek or risk falling behind the top teams, and it is only October.
