Four Premier League clubs handed devastating blow after Crystal Palace win FA Cup final

Palace won their first major championship at Wembley after defeating Manchester City 1-0.

Crystal Palace’s victory in the 2025 FA Cup final dealt a serious blow to four Premier League clubs.

In the first half, Eberechi Eze scored the game’s lone goal as Palace defeated Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley.

Omar Marmoush of City attempted a penalty, but custodian Dean Henderson saved it, and Pep Guardiola’s team missed other chances to tie the score.

However, Palace’s cutting edge in front of goal contrasted with that of their opponents at Wembley, making them well-deserving of their first major prize ever.

With Palace joining the Europa League, Oliver Glasner’s team is guaranteed a spot in Europe for the upcoming campaign.

They will be the second team to earn a position in the competition, with the sixth-place Premier League team also guaranteed a spot.

The team that ends seventh in the Premier League would have been awarded the Europa League slot if City had won the FA Cup and placed among the top five.

The only Conference League spot would then go to the eighth-place team.

Chelsea can also earn a spot in the Europa League by winning the Conference League, but if they finished in the top five of the Premier League, their qualification spot would not be transferred.

However, the seventh-place team will advance to the Conference League as a result of Palace’s victory.

With the exception of one particular situation, this means that Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth, and Fulham—all of whom can mathematically finish eighth—no longer have any chance of qualifying for Europe.

Since then, the Premier League has made it clear that the eighth-place team can still qualify for the Conference League, but only if Chelsea advances and finishes seventh.

Brighton participated in the Europa League the previous season, but Brentford and Bournemouth have never competed in Europe.

In contrast, Fulham lost to Atletico Madrid in the 2010 Europa League final. Through the now-defunct Fair Play Table rule, they qualified for the competition the following season, however they were unable to advance past their group.
