While midweek Championship action looms, Southampton can enjoy their weekend South Coast derby triumph over Portsmouth for the next few days.
The Saints gained bragging rights over arch rivals Pompey at St Mary’s, with a tough 1-0 win and a battling second half display making the outcome even sweeter.
Another significant three points moves Southampton up to 11th in the Championship standings, with Tonda Eckert’s side gaining 13 points from their first nine league games and aiming to climb further up the table in the coming weeks.
The Saints return to play on Wednesday evening, travelling to Carrow Road to face Norwich City, and they will be looking for another win given how unreliable the Canaries have been in their first nine games.

Finn Azaz can play a significant part for Southampton this season.
Finn Azaz has had a fantastic start to his new campaign, establishing himself as one of the most potent forces in the last third this term.
So far, he has three goals and six assists, which is an excellent number at this point, and given his current level of confidence, those stats are only going to rise as more games are played.
Azaz terrorised the Pompey defence with his defence-splitting passes, and Southampton will only score more goals if Azaz continues to be so creative.
The 26-year-old is undoubtedly at the peak of his game right now, and Southampton has the potential to achieve something remarkable this season with such a top-tier playmaker on their roster.
