According to TEAMtalk, Roberto De Zerbi, the manager of Brighton & Hove Albion, could be let off if Newcastle United make a summer approach for Billy Gilmour, a midfielder for the Seagulls.
Since joining Brighton in September 2022, Gilmour—a 22-year-old Scotland international—has been an integral part of De Zerbi’s starting lineup.
Even though Gilmour was already well-known when he signed with Brighton, the Seaside town’s fans considered his September 2022 transfer from Chelsea—for slightly under £9 million—a major coup.
A lot of people look up to Brighton as an example of good business because of how they’ve been able to spot brilliant players and then sell them for massive sums of money.
Brighton has received substantial sums for the sales of several players in the past few years, including Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Marc Cucurella, and Ben White.
According to insiders, there is a “serious chance” that Gilmour, who joined for a low cost, could depart in the summer due to interest from rival Premier League teams and other European clubs. This would make him the latest star to go.
His age and experience in the English top division make him an appealing proposition to Newcastle, who are anxious to bolster their squad. The Magpies have looked at the player, who is a product of Rangers’ academy.
