An individual who had previously played for Liverpool and had made a request to leave the club on the first day that Arne Slot was in charge of the club has expressed interest in returning to Anfield at some point in the future.
The month of August saw Sepp van den Berg leave Liverpool in order to sign with Brentford, a club that is also in the Premier League. Since then, he has already made twenty appearances for the Bees in the league.
The Dutchman moved to Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in 2021, but he did not make any appearances for the senior team. Instead, he spent loan stints at different clubs, including Preston North End, Schalke, and Mainz.
While the 23-year-old is primarily a centre back by trade, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has also used him in the right back position on multiple occasions.
An injury to his knee that he sustained during the 1-0 victory over West Ham earlier this month has caused him to be sidelined for the time being. However, Frank has confirmed that the injury was “minor” and that he is anticipated to return in a matter of weeks rather than months.
Now, in an interview with the Dutch publication Voetbal Primeur, Van den Berg has disclosed that, although a return to Liverpool is not on the agenda for the foreseeable future, he is interested in returning to Anfield at some point in the future.
“I already indicated to the club that I wanted to leave and play minutes before the preparation [pre-season] started,” he said. “It happened before the pre-season even began.”
If I were to say that I did not have the desire to go back to Liverpool at some point in the future, I would be lying. That is something that is still on my mind.
On the other hand, for the time being, it was more beneficial for my career to take a different path and play a lot. At the moment, I am engaging in that activity, which enables me to progress to the greatest extent possible.
“After the preparation, Liverpool informed me that they wanted me to remain because I had performed so well to their satisfaction. On the other hand, I did not really envision that happening to me.
“The decision to leave was entirely up to me,” she said further. It brings me great joy to be able to play in the Premier League on a weekly basis.
