After the club decided not to keep Raphael Varane, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been informed that he should offer Jonny Evans a contract for the upcoming campaign.

After releasing Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans should get a new contract from Manchester United, according to his former international teammate.

Varane, 32, and the Red Devils both announced earlier this week that the former Real Madrid defender will sign a free agent contract this summer. United’s refusal to exercise the veteran’s contract’s one-year option prompted the decision.

Despite having injury concerns, Varane has demonstrated his class since joining from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021. However, United is left with few defense options as a result of his departure.

There have been rumors that more adjustments might be made there. Evans’ contract is also up, but Stuart Dallas—who partnered with the Northern Ireland defender—thinks the defender has earned a new one.

The Belfast Telegraph quoted the former Leeds midfielder as saying, “Of course Man United should keep Jonny.” Given how frequently he has performed this year, Jonny has most likely surprised himself. Not only has he played, though; he has also been the best defender for Manchester United.

“Jonny has done an excellent job with the games I’ve seen. Jonny is still the same guy; everyone can see how well he reads the game. This season, Man United has benefited from his experience.

After making an impression during preseason, Evans signed a one-year contract with United last summer. Since then, he has made 28 appearances across all competitions.

Evans has been reliable, but it’s unclear if he’ll get a contract for the upcoming season. Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are also up for grabs; according to different reports, both could be sold this summer.

In recent months, United has been connected to several central defenders. Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton looks to be the main target after making an impression in the Premier League this season; given the Toffees’ financial circumstances, a sale might be appealing. A £55 million price tag has been suggested for the highly regarded 21-year-old.

Jean-Clair Todibo, a defender for OGC Nice, is another player who has been connected to a transfer to Old Trafford. The Red Devils have also been linked to Fulham’s out-of-contract striker Tosin Adarabioyo for the summer.
