Harry Redknapp likened Alexis Mac Allister, who scored a spectacular goal against Sheffield United last week, to Liverpool great Steven Gerrard.

Since joining Jurgen Klopp’s team from Brighton last summer, the Argentine has been a vital member of the midfield. Since Klopp is leaving Anfield, he will play for a new manager in the upcoming season.

Mac Allister has made 37 appearances for the Reds in all competitions thus far in 2023–24; Klopp has mostly utilized him in defensive midfield. His significance was once again brought to light during the match at Anfield against the relegation-threatened Blades, as Chris Wilder’s team equalized and played a strong defense for the majority of the second half. When compared to the goals scored by the club’s talisman, former captain Gerrard, the 25-year-old’s strike put the Reds ahead 2-1.

Additionally, Redknapp, a former Tottenham manager, has praised Liverpool’s midfield player highly. He feels that this season, his contributions to Klopp’s squad have not received the credit they merit.

Redknapp included Alexis Mac Allister in his team of the week and said, “He’s been as good as anyone in the league. He’s been outstanding recently.”

“That goal last week against Sheffield United was reminiscent of a classic Steven Gerrard goal! I am aware that the young man won the World Cup, but I don’t think many truly appreciate how talented he is.”

In response to suggestions that his volley against the Cottagers was the result of pure luck, Mac Allister was recently asked to compare his goal against the Blades to the incredible strike he scored against Fulham.

“I don’t know [which goal was better],” he replied. “We were talking about that. Although they were both excellent, what matters most is that it contributed to the game’s victory. They told me it was lucky against Fulham, so I had to disprove them.”
