Didier Drogba is right up there with the best of the best when it comes to the footballers that the Premier League has brought in from other professional leagues.
Drogba was acquired by Chelsea from Marseille in 2004, and throughout his two stints at Stamford Bridge, he went on to win the championship four times and had a single victory in the Champions League.
Throughout his playing career, the Blues great had amassed an incredible record of individual honours, and he is also renowned for his generosity and the work he has done for charitable organisations.
Prior to his retirement from football in 2018, he was a founding player-owner of the USL Championship team Phoenix Rising. Additionally, he has co-hosted the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony on two separate occasions previously.
Megan Rapinoe and Alexia Putellas were the recipients of the Ballon d’Or Femenin, while Lionel Messi was the recipient of the men’s award on both occasions the honour was presented.
B/R Football approached Drogba with the request to nominate a player who was unfairly passed over for a Ballon d’Or, which is the award that is given to the footballer who is chosen the finest in the world by journalists.
The striker from Ivory Coast chose to play for a rival team from London and heaped admiration on them.
“Thierry Henry,” he uttered. “He deserved it like ten times over because I believe he was fantastic in the Premier League, but he was also exceptional for the national team and in the Champions League. He was really good at all of those things.”
It is his ability to score goals and win games, both on his own and for his team. Thierry Henry is the subject of our conversation, and I’m not sure if there is anything else that can be said about him.
During his time in the Premier League, the forward for Arsenal was a phenomenon.
Henry is the player with the highest goals per game record of any player in the Premier League, having scored 100 goals in the league. He was converted from a winger by Arsene Wenger, and he scored 175 goals in 258 Premier League appearances between the years 1999 and 2012.
His ability to go past a defender was just as lethal as his scoring record, and he played in a style that was believed to be one of a kind.
The Gunners were unbeatable in the 2003–2004 season and won the Premier League twice while Henry was at the height of his abilities.
Over the course of four years, they were victorious in the FA Cup three times. In 2006, they made it all the way to the Champions League final, when they were defeated by a Barcelona team that would soon claim Henry among its own.
He was victorious in the league competition in Spain on two separate occasions, and in 2009, he added the Champions League to his collection of medals for good measure.
Henry is widely considered to be one of the best players in the history of the Premier League, and he was admitted into the Hall of Fame inside the league in the year 2021.
