On Wednesday night, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the most highly awaited Champions League match of the season. The two teams squared off in front of almost 50,000 supporters, and goals from Senny Mayulu and Goncalo Ramos cancelled out Ferran Torres’ opener to give the French team the win and three points.
It was a dismal night for the Catalan team. For the most part, they’ve been outstanding this season, and Marcus Rashford has already made a huge contribution. The Englishman joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United this summer, and despite a few setbacks, including as being dismissed from the team due to being late for training, he’s stepped up on the pitch.
Following his team’s defeat to PSG on Wednesday, the Spanish media had a lot to say about Rashford’s performance.
What the media said about Rashford:

Rashford has already played hero for Barcelona in Europe since his arrival. He scored twice in their Champions League opening against Newcastle United last month, and he came up big again against PSG, setting up Torres for his team’s first goal.
The assist was his third in as many games, but it was insufficient to give his team the victory. Despite the loss, the Spanish media have praised Rashford’s performance. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, AS described his performance as’very energetic and lively on the left flank’. Mundo Deportivo also commended him, citing his assist total since going to Catalonia, but noted he had slowed significantly by the time he was replaced in the 72nd minute. They stated:
“Another assist for the Englishman, his fifth since joining Barcelona. His stiff, low assist set up Ferran’s 1-0. He made another threatening run that simply required a finishing touch. “He faded before being substituted.”
El Des Marque gave him a rating of 7.5 out of 10, making him one of the highest-rated players on the Barcelona team, and, according to the Manchester Evening News, “Rashford continues his good assist streak, today with the first assist for Ferran Torres.” He attempted multiple dangerous plays with dribbles and crosses and did not stop until his substitution.”
