Burnley are still looking for a new left-back before the summer deadline, after their ambitions to sign Hull City’s Ryan Giles fell through, with Manchester United’s Harry Amass now a target.

According to Pete O’Rourke of X, Burnley is in talks with the Red Devils about a prospective trade for Amass, while the Clarets are talking with United about a loan or permanent move.

Despite Manchester United’s lack of full-backs, Amass, 19, does not appear to be in Michael Carrick’s immediate plans, and Burnley are hoping to take advantage of this in their search for another option in that position.

Man United’s Amass has now entered the Lancashire club’s radar, with the club in negotiations with the Red Devils about bringing the 19-year-old to Turf Moor on loan or permanently before the transfer deadline.

The Daily Mail earlier suggested that Amass might be available for as little as £7 million this summer, but despite this price tag, there haven’t been many teams lining up to sign him, with Burnley looking to take advantage of this soon.

At 19, Amass has already displayed he is more than capable of excelling at Championship level, enjoying a fruitful spell out on loan with Sheffield Wednesday in the second tier during the first half of last season, where he predominantly played as a left wing-back in a back five, making 21 league appearances for the Owls, scoring once and assisting once.

His excellent performances in South Yorkshire led United to recall him and send him back out on loan to the Championship, this time with Norwich City, but he would be struck by a season-ending injury after just one game, and he has since returned to fitness back in the North West.

Despite impressing in pre-season under Carrick, there appears to be no place in the side for Amass at Old Trafford, with Burnley viewing the England youth international as their ideal left-back candidate.

Should it be a permanent switch to Turf Moor, Burnley could be getting a bargain, with Amass still just 19; he has ample time to improve and develop his game, as the Clarets hope to be the beneficiaries of United’s transfer decision.
