The captain of Manchester United has hinted that he might depart the team in the summer.
This summer, Bruno Fernandes has hinted that he might “think about” leaving Manchester United.
According to recent reports, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have a busy transfer window at Old Trafford as he looks to restructure the team following his takeover of football operations.
After a disappointing season, it’s thought that Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Kobbie Mainoo are the only players who aren’t for sale. However, United is accepting bids for the majority of their starting lineup.
That would indicate that, despite being named club captain at the beginning of the season and putting up largely steady performances despite the team’s difficulties, Fernandes’ time in Manchester may be coming to an end. The Portuguese sensation has nine assists and 15 goals across all competitions.
Although the club has the option to extend his contract by one more year, Fernandes did not completely rule out the prospect of leaving Old Trafford following this summer’s European Championship. His contract expires in 2026.
Fernandes stated to DAZN Portugal: “It’s obvious that it depends on more than just me.
“A player must always want to be here, but you must also want him to stay.” I feel like there’s that right now on both sides.
“Obviously, this season hasn’t been at the caliber I’d hoped for, either individually or collectively, thus far, so I’m not thinking too much about the future.
To be perfectly honest, nothing will be able to divert my attention from the FA Cup final and the Euros at this point, so if I have to consider quitting the Premier League, it won’t be until after the competition.
